LIFE AND WORKS OF JOSE RIZAL

(BACHELOR OF SCIENCE AND ACCOUNTANCY 4TH YEAR)

Ms. Alexis Jane F. Llego Justine L. Serran

INSTRUCTOR STUDENT
WHY DO WE NEED TO STUDY THE LIFE AND WORKS OF RIZAL?
In my research we study the life and works of Rizal because it’s a law. The Republic Act
No. 1425, An Act to Include in the Curricula of All Public and Private Schools, Colleges and
Universities Courses On the Life, Works and Writings of Jose Rizal, Particularly His Novels Noli Me
Tangere and El Filibusterismo, Authorizing the Printing and Distribution Thereof, and for Other
Purposes, commonly known as the Rizal Law, mandates all educational institutions in the
Philippines to offer courses about Jose Rizal. And because Rizal once told us “He who does not
know to look back at where he came from will never get to his destination.” It is evident on what
is happening to us Filipinos and our country Philippines today. If we do not learn from our history
our society that Rizal drew in Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo would not be the society we
are in today, and most of the chapters of Rizal’s work are the Reflections of the present
Philippines. Rizal has done many great things in the Philippine history. If you would read and
analyze and observe his life, you would be greatly inspired. I believe that DepED has included it in
the curriculum because knowing Rizal's life and works inspire Filipinos to become real Filipinos,
to be proud of their motherland and native-tongue, to prove to other countries that Filipinos are
great are capable of excellence over other races.

EXAMPLE OF HIS WORKS AND TELL SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Essentially, reading “Noli Me Tangere” had made the Filipinos to rightly possess a
unifying element of national identity, as many of those ancient natives were able to establish a
unique identity through regionalism. Also, it had taken the course of an overall, systematic and a
totally irretraceable caricature of a colonial Philippines society. In conclusion, Rizal’s “Noli Me
Tangere” is a priceless gem and inspiration for the present and future generations, who are too
apprehensive in freely expressing themselves in the most subtle but dangerous ways. For the
Philippine government today and in the years to come, let it remind them that serving the
Filipinos is not a privilege, but a sincere commitment to be honest and selfless at all times.
El Filibusterismo (The Reign of Greed) was written in dedication of the three martyred
priests namely Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos and Jacinto Zamora popularly known as
GOMBURZA, whose tragic execution left unforgettable imprint in his mind. El Fili aims at
enlightening the society, and at bringing the Filipinos closer to the truth. In this novel, the society
is urged to open its eyes to reality and rebel against the Spanish government for its oppression
and abuse. These two novels helped awaken the Filipinos to fight for their freedom and stand
with their right. It had made me realized that war does not necessarily have to end through
means of violence, it could always be ended peacefully, through words and maybe even
forgiveness. Words are far stronger than any gun. Vengeance is not ours, it’s God. Evilness is at
every corner but thou shall not fear because good will always prevail.
