Hiring Plan

Desired Qualifications
 Holds a valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements
 Has a variety of experiences teaching and/or working with children; experience with
grade-level position is preferred
 Strong references and recommendations

Role of Human Resources and/or Central Administration


 Posting the job opening
 Per district guidelines, are there any specific questions or qualifications that need to be
asked/answered/filled?
 The process of paperwork, once the candidate is hired

Process I Would Follow


Step 1: Submit Application
 Grade-level and subject area qualifications/current teaching assignment
 Background and eligibly information (teaching certification)
 Resume
*ideally complete applications would be on file for a quick hiring process when and as needed

Step 2: Application Review


 The appropriate administration will screen applications for candidate skills and
qualifications that match the needs of the open position.
 The appropriate administration will develop interview questions.
 The entire hiring team will participate in the first round of questions (prior to model
lesson).

Step 3: Interview with School


 The hiring team consists of the appropriate administration, a grade level teacher of the
position being hired, and the PTO president (or another influential parent).
 Model lesson – looking for an understanding of the candidate’s teaching and classroom
management style (PTO president/parent not present for this – from experience?)
 Tour of the school after model lesson

Step 4: Referrals
 If both the interview and model lesson are successful, the candidate’s references will be
checked.

Step 5: Job Offer


 If references are successful, the candidate will be offered a conditional letter of
employment, pending a background check.
