Monica consistently organizes curriculum to enable all students to learn to use the knowledge, skills, and abilities identified in specific the Single
Subject content area of English. Today¿s lesson topic centers around the book ¿Beowulf: A New Telling.¿ Content standards for her grade 7 English
language arts class include citing several pieces of textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says as well as drawing inferences from
the text. Determining a theme or central idea of a text and analyzing its development over the course of the text. Determining the meaning of
words and phrases as they are used in a text. By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poems in
grades 6-8 text. This lesson is an extension of previous lessons. The learning objective for today is for the students to read and understand
chapter 1 in Beowulf. Students should understand the figurative language in their reading.
