DETAILED LESSON PLAN (DLP)

Date: 02/21/2019 Learning Area: SCIENCE 6 Component: Quarter: 4th Duration: 50 mins.
8:40- 9:30 – Emerald Earth Science
1:00- 1:50 – Diamond
2:20- 3:10 - Onyx
LEARNING Demonstrate rotation and revolution of the Earth using a globe to explain day
COMPETENCY and night and the sequence of seasons.

KEY CONCEPTS/ o Earth rotates on its axis.

UNDERSTANDINGS o One complete rotation of Earth on its axis takes about 24 hours. Thus, a day
TO BE DEVELOPED equals 24 hours. This is called a mean solar day.
o Earth’s rotation causes daytime and nighttime.
o As Earth rotates on its axis, it also moves slowly around the sun in an
elliptical orbit. This is called revolution.
o One complete revolution is 365 ¼ days.

1. OBJECTIVES
Knowledge: Describe how the Earth moves.

Skills: Create a model that shows that Earth rotates and revolves.
Attitude: Actively participate in the activities.
Values: Makakalikasan

2. CONTENT EARTH’S MOVEMENTS

3. LEARNING Video clips

RESOURCES Audio-visual materials
Gift box
Globe

4. PROCEDURES:
4.1 Introductory Oral Spelling:
Activity elliptical axis imaginary
(3 minutes) orbit rotation revolution
(Obj. 2)

4.2 Activity/ A friend of mine sent a gift for me, would you mind helping me out in
Strategy unwrapping it and find out what’s inside of this gift box? The pupils are
(5 minutes) (Obj. 4) requested to unwrap the gift. Before doing it, a few of them will be asked to
guess what is inside.

After, ask the following:

1. What was the object inside the gift box?
2. What is the purpose of having a globe? What is its use?
(Obj. 3) 3. If you were the Earth, how would you behave or act? Why?
4. Would you move? Or will you just stay on your place?
5. What do you think would probably happen if the Earth will not move?

4.3 Analysis Watch and understand the information presented on the different movements
(5 minutes) of the Earth through a video clip.
(Obj. 9)

4.4 Abstraction/ Through varied questions and with the use of the globe, pupils are guided to
Generalization construct the ideas about the movements of the Earth.
(10 minutes)
o Earth rotates on its axis.
o One complete rotation of Earth on its axis takes about 24 hours. Thus, a day
(Obj. 1 –Math) equals 24 hours. This is called a mean solar day.
o Earth’s rotation causes daytime and nighttime.
o As Earth rotates on its axis, it also moves slowly around the sun in an
elliptical orbit. This is called revolution.
o One complete revolution is 365 ¼ days.
(Obj. 1 –AP) Using the globe, if the Philippines is on its daytime, what do you think are the
countries experiencing nighttime?

4.5 Application Task 8: Each group will be given 10 minutes to prepare a presentation utilizing
(5 minutes) whether the members of the group or any thing that they could find around to
show the movements of the Earth. Be creative in doing it! 

Guidelines:
(Obj. 5) 1. Stay with the group in your assigned place of work
2. Be cooperative in accomplishing the task.
3. Observe discipline on all the activities given.

4.6 Assessment Each group will present their models of Earth’s movements.
(20 minutes)
RUBRICS:
Discipline- 5
Content- 10
(Obj. 6) Presentation/ Overall impact- 5
(Obj. 10)
TOTAL – 20 points

4.7 Assignment Every day is an oral recitation day, so study and prepare for it.
(2 minutes)
(Obj. 7 Drill- Assignment)
4.8 Concluding In your Science notebook, complete this statement:
