p A person who plants tulasi liberate his family
p As many branches, sub-branches ,seeds, flowers and leaves are on the tulasi he planted
that many ancestors and descendents in his family for a thousand kalpa yugas will go to
K’s abode
p O R, by offering K a single tulasi leaf one attains the result of offering him e flower and
leaf that exists
p A person who w/ offering of tulasi leaves worships K is not touched by sin as a lotus leaf
is not touched by water
p By protecting a tulasi forest one attains the result of giving in charity 100 bharas of gold
or 400 bharas of silver (bhara = 10 kg)
p A home in the midst of a tulasi forest is a sacred place of pilgrimage
p They who plant a sacred tulasi forest which fulfills desires and removes sins, are the best
of people
p They will never see Yamaraja
p For persons who plant, protect, water, see or touch her, tulasi burns the sins committed
w/ body, mind and words
p On a single tulasi leaf the holy place beginning with Puskara, the sacred rives beginning
with Ganga, and the Deities headed by Vasudeva reside
p Even though stained with 100 sins a person who touches a tulasi manjari has he leaves
this life does not see Yamaraja
p Sin does not touch the body of a sinner anointed with tulasi paste
p The beautiful shre of a tulasi forest is a fitting place for a sraddha to be performed
p Such offering to the Pitas are everlasting
p O friend, as 4-faced Brahma cannot describe the glories of K (who holds the çärìga
bow), so he cannot describe the glories of tulasé
p A man or women wh offers sandal paste and tulasi to K’s feet attains the results I have
told you

p Then K will always be your submissive servant
p As time of star abhijit (chief amount the 28 important constellations, situated 1.6 mil
miles above moons orbit when sun passes through this is an auspicious moment –
Vamanadeva also appeared at this time – K won Lakñmanä @ svayamavara at this time
as well)
p Beginning with full moon in month of Açvina (Sept/Oct) & end with full mon in Caitra
(Mar/April)
p To please K R followed a vow w/ great devotion
p Month after month sprinkled tulasi with milk, sugarcane juice, grape juice, mango juice,
païcämåta, and many kinds of sweet and cool juices
p On 1st day of Vaisakha (April/May) ended vow
p Then please 200k brahmanas with 56 course feast
p Then gave them dakñiëä of 100k large, splendid pearls and many costly garments and
ornaments
p $ gave 10 mil bhäras of gold to GM
p Gave 100 bhäras of gold and pearls to each brahmana
p Demigods sounded drums
p Apsaras danced
p D’gods showered flowers on the tulasi temple
p And where there were many millions of glittering and expert gopé-friends, their faces
very beautiful, their garments wonderfully colorful, and their earrings rising suns in a
temple of clouds.
p In their midst Queen Rädhä wandered in the palace courtyard
p which was anointed with kuìkuma paste,
p splendid with fine curtains,
p and filled up to Her ankles with çiréña petals anointed with drops of mälaté honey
p There R languidly moved her lotus feet
p Then R saw K in disguise enter her courtyard
p His splendor eclipsed the splendor of all other girls (like moon over stars)

p Placed on throne
p Worshipped with arghya and other objects as if were important person

p R: beautiful friend, welcome!
p Please tell me your name
p I am fortunate to have you come today
p On this earth I do not see anyone like you
p O girl with beautiful eyebrows, the city where you stay is very fortunate
p O goddess please elaborately explain why you have come
p Please tell me how I may assist you
p I see that you glistening splendor, sidelong glance, words, pleasing smile and graceful
motions are like those of Näräyana
p O beautiful one, come here and meet with me everyday
p Otherwise, tell me where we can meet
p Arrange that we always meet
p You are dearer to me that my own self
p Your form is like that of Vraja’s prince, who has captured my heart.

NM’s palace in Nandanagara
p My name is Gopadevatä.
p From L’s mouth I have heard the sweetness of your beauty and virtues
p O girl with a restless glance I have now come to your home to see it
p O girl with lotus eyes, you are a lotus flower with the fragrance of lavanga flowers and
the buzzing of bees in a gove of guïjä

p Offer seat accord to custom
p R: I was unhappy at night without you. O friend, now that you have come I am like one
who has found a great treasure
p O beautiful one, you first made me happy then you made me sad

p Hearing this Gopadevatä became unhappy
p As if morose, he did not say anything to R
p Understanding that K/G was sad, R & friends considered the situation
p
p R: Beautiful one, why are You unhappy?
p O Gopadevatä, please tell Me. Did Your mother, brother, sister, or sister-in-law speak
angry words to You?
p Did a co-wife fault You?
p R: Foolish friend, why do You criticize Lord Kåñëa, the original and perfect Supreme
Personality of Godhead
p who, to enjoy pastimes, remove the earth's burden, and bring auspiciousness to the
devotees,
p has descended to the earth,
p to attain whom Brahmä Çiva and all the demigods perform great yoga austerities,
p And the honey pollen of whose lotus feet Dattätreya, Çukadeva, Kapila, Asuri, and
Aìgirä touch?
p The gopas protect the cows.
p Without touching water, they are covered by cows' dust.
p The chant the cows' names.
p Day and night they see the cows' beautiful faces.
p On this earth no birth better than a gopas' birth.
p Gazing at Kåñëa's dark handsomeness, Çiva became attached to Him.
p Giving up all normal happiness, wearing matted hair, drinking poison, covered with
ashes, and decorated with snakes and skulls, Çiva now walks and runs about like a
madman.
p He is the protector of the svarlokas, siddhas, munis, yakñas, and maruts.
p He is the master of all the humans, kinnaras, and nägas.
p Day and night the glorious great souls devotedly bow before His lotus feet and make
offerings to Him.
p He killed
p Vatsäsura, p Baka, p Tåëävärta,
p Agha, p the arjuna trees, p Sakaöäsura,
p Käliya, p Dhenuka, p and Pütanä!
p How great are His glories?
p He is the creator and destroyer of many millions of universes!
p To Him, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, no one is more dear than His devotee.
p Neither Çiva, Brahmä, Lakñmé, nor Balaräma is more dear.
p Lord Kåñëa, the crest-jewel of all persons, His heart now bound with love, becomes the
humble follower of His devotees.
p Following His devotees here and there, He purifies the worlds.
p He loudly declares His love for His devotees.
p To those who worship Him, Lord Kåñëa easily gives liberation,
p But He does not easily give pure devotional service.
p G/K: O R your words mock the Vedas and your intelligence laughs at Brhaspati
p When the SPG comes here and confirms your words, the I will believe them
p R: O girl with beautiful eyebrows, tell me, if the SPG personally comes, what will I do
about you?
p If the L who wears a forest garden comes I will not be able to give my palace and all my
wealth to you

p As the gopés followed the Supreme Lord's footprints and as they again and again took
the dust from those footprints and placed it to their heads,
p the girls of Vraja saw another set of footprints marked with different signs

p Parasol, p Many bindus, p Throne,

p Gopés: K has come here in R’s company

p When K hear tumultuous sound of approaching gopis says to R:
p O R, O beloved
p O girl as splendid as 10 mil moons,
p Go quickly
p These gopis have come to take you from me
p
p R, feeling proud of her beauty, youthfulness, intelligence and good character, spoke to
K:
p I cannot move
p I cannot leave this place
p I am only a delicate girl
p I am perspiring
p O beloved, how can you lead me away
p
p Hearing this K made a breeze for R by fanning her w/ his yellow garments
p The K took R by and said:
p O R walk as fast as you like
p
p R did not move
p R turns back to K
p Stands silently
p
p K to R: Let us leave behind these gopis that wish to come with us
p O noble girl, I worship you w/ all my heart
p O R I will do whatever you wish
p Climb on my should & you will quickly & easily flee from them
p
p As R was about to climb on K’s shoulders K disappears
p Distressed by K’s departure, R’s pride was now gone
p Cries loudly
p When gopis here R’s crying become overwhelmed with sorrow
p Gopis shower R w/ psray of honey, sandalwood, aguru, musk & saffron
p Make breeze on her limbs by fanning w/ fans and camaras
p Some who were expert @ comforting others comforted R with words
p When gopis heard how arrogant K treated R were astonished
p O Kåñëa, our sorrow is a thousand times greater than King Saudäsa's queen felt away
from her husband, ten million times greater than Nala's queen felt, and more without
limit than King Janaka's daughter felt.
p Çré Uddhava is the crest jewel of all the devotees. He is qualified to approach Your
lotus feet. It is because of Him that we take shelter of Your feet.
p O glorious one, please be kind to us! Please give us shelter!

p As gopis wept K appear as if to fulfill their desires
p Seeing K decorated with crown, armlests, earrings, bracelets, and glorius black curly

p Seeing K had come gopis stood up as when see sense objects

p Dances w/ R and Kämadeva dances with Rati (lust w/ attachment)
p K espanded to as many forms as were gopis
p Gopis w/o sorrow
p Approached K in forest w/ folded hands & spoke
p Gopis: O K, when you left us the whole world became as important as a blade of grass
p Now we have attained our hearts desire at your feet
p Where did you go while you were gone
p Please tell us

p K: On Puñkara-dvépa there is a great sage named Haàsa who performed austerities
while submerged in the ocean of yogurt
p He spent tow manvataras meditating on me in pure devotion
p Today a four-mile fish swamllowed him
p Then a demon in the form of an even larger white fish swallowed that fish
p With a great knife I cut the heads of those two fish and save the sage Haàsa from his
distress
p O gopis then I went to Çvetadvépa
p Lying on the couch of Çeña in milk ocean I took a nap
p When I becme aware of your suffering I came here at once
p Your pure devotion has made me your submissive servant
p Saintly devotees who have generous hearts, who sees everyone equally
p Who control their senses
p And who are aloof from material things find in their renunciation great happiness that I
give to them
p Just as the senses find happiness in the sense objects that begin with tast
p
p Gopis: O K, if you are please with us please show us your form you displayed at rest on
Çeña in the milk ocean

p O Rädhä, please hear the blessing I give to You:
p After many months, when the period of Our separation is over, You will see Me again.
p At the time of the Varäha-kalpa, I will go with You to the earth to relieve the earth's
burden and allow the devotees to see Me.
p O Çrédämä, hear My words.
p By a partial expansion of yourself you will become a demon.
p During the Vaivasvata-manvantara you will fight with Me.
p You will then die by My hand.
p Of this there is no doubt.
p By My blessings You will again attain the form you had before.
p
p Thus Çrédämä took birth among the Yakñas in the home of Sudhana

p Again & again meditated, but no see K
p Frustrated and depressed
p Yearning to see K comes out of trance

p He is enjoying räsa dance w/ many gopés in Vrn
p By his mäyä potency has transformed middle of night into six months.

p Near Yam see place filled with splendid groves of trees, vines in Garga Samhita
and archways (Canto 2, chapter 25)
p Many powerful stick wielding women of Goloka guarded
p Blocking path, forbade S & AM from entering
p S & AM: yearning to see K we have come here
p Guards: There are millions of us everywhere in Vrn
p We eternally guard the räsa dance
p In this secluded circle K is the only male
p Except for him it is only gopis
p If you wish to see K, bath in Mäna Sarovara lake
p In that way you will become gopés
p Then you may enter
p S & AM boat in Mänasarovara & become gopis
p S & AM go to circle of rasa dance
p In beautiful place paved with gold and rubies
p Shaded by kadamaba trees
p And flowering mädhavé vines
p Filled with beauty
p Splendid w/ spring moonlight
p Glorious w/ arches and jewel stairways leading to Yam
p filled with cooing peacocks, swans, datyühas, and cuckoos,
p fanned by the Yamunä's breezes,
p beautiful with newly-blossoming trees,
p filled with meeting houses that had courtyards with rows of pillars,
p splendid fluttering flags, and golden domes
p filled with flower-palaces of red and white blossoms,
p the buzzing of bees, and sweet sounds of musical instruments,
p and fragrant with pure and cooling breezes carrying the scent of thousand-petal lotuses,
p You are the original and perfect Supreme Personality of Godhead, glorious with
incarnations that display a part, a part of a part, or a part of a part of a part of Your
power.
p With Your many empowered inacarnations You maintain the universe.
p With the sweet räsa dance You decorate the forest of Våndävana.
p O master of Goloka,
p O master of the king of mountains.
p O supreme master,
p O master of Våndävana,
p O enjoyer of eternal pastimes,
p O master of Rädhä,
p O master whose glories are sung by the girls of Vraja,
p O master of Gokula,
p O Govinda,
p all glories to You!
p You are decorated with beautiful flowers taken from Våndävana's vines.
p You are the ornament Çré Rädhä wears on Her neck and over Her heart.
p You are the master of the räsa-dance circle.
p You are the master of the circle of Vraja.
p You are the protector of the circle of the universes.
p
p K: Renouncing everything, the two of you performed austerities for sixty-thousand
years in order to see Me.
p You do not crave material wealth, you are peaceful, you do not think anyone your
enemy, and you are my friends.
p Therefore, please choose a benediction. Choose whatever your heart’s desire.
p
p S & AM: O Lord who resides in Våndävana, we eternally offer our obeisances to Your
lotus feet.
p Nothing other than Your lotus feet gives us any happiness.
p O Çré Çré Rädhä-Kåñëa, we offer our respectful obeisances to You!

p From that moment Lord Çiva and Asuri Muni made their residence there, at
Vaàçévaöa, where the forest grove by the Yamunä's shore is decorated with the circle of
the räsa dance.
p K enjoy rasa dance with gopés in Padmäkara forest which was filled with buzzing bees &
fragrant flower pollen
p 6 months were compressed into one night
p At sunrise gopés returned home
p They would assemble together and, holding one another’s hands, loudly sing of the
wonderful pastimes of Kåñëa.
p It is an old system among Indian girls and women that when they take a bath in the river
they place their garments on the bank and dip into the water completely naked.
p The portion of the river where the girls and women bathe was strictly prohibited to any
male, and this is still the system.
p Kåñëa, knowing the minds of the unmarried young gopés, blessed them with their
desired objective.
p They had prayed for Kåñëa to become their husband, and Kåñëa wanted to fulfill their
desires.
p At the end of the month, Kåñëa, along with His friends, appeared on the scene.
p Appearing on the scene, Kåñëa immediately collected all the garments of the gopés,
climbed up into a nearby tree, and with a smiling face began to speak to them.

p “My dear girls,” He said, “please come here one after another and pray for your
garments and then take them away.
p I’m not joking with you.
p I’m just telling the truth.
p I have no desire to play any joke with you, for you are tired from observing the
regulative principles for one month by worshiping goddess Kätyäyané.
p Please do not come here all at once.
p Come alone; I want to see each of you in your complete beauty, for you all have thin
waists.
p I have requested you to come alone.
p Now please comply.”
p
p When the girls in the water heard such joking words from Kåñëa, they began to look at
one another and smile.
p They were very joyous to hear such a request from Kåñëa because they were already in
love with Him.
p Out of shyness, they looked at one another,
p But they could not come out of the water because they were naked.
p Due to remaining in the water for a long time, they felt cold and were shivering,
p Yet upon hearing the pleasing joking words of Govinda, their minds were perturbed
with great joy.
p
p They told Kåñëa, “Dear son of Nanda Mahäräja, please do not joke with us in that way.
p It is completely unjust to us.
p You are a very respectable boy because You are the son of Nanda Mahäräja,
p You are very dear to us,
p But You should not play this joke on us, because now we are all shivering from the cold
water.
p Kindly deliver our garments immediately; otherwise we shall suffer.”
p They then began to appeal to Kåñëa with great submission. “Dear Çyämasundara,” they
said, “we are all Your eternal servitors.
p Whatever You order us to do, we are obliged to perform without hesitation because we
consider it our religious duty.
p But if You insist on putting this proposal to us, which is impossible to perform, then
certainly we will have to go to Nanda Mahäräja and lodge a complaint against You.
p If Nanda Mahäräja does not take action, then we shall tell King Kaàsa about Your
misbehavior.”
p
p Upon hearing this appeal by the unmarried gopés, Kåñëa answered,
p “My dear girls, if you think that you are My eternal servitors and you are always ready
to execute My order, then My request is that, with your smiling faces, you please come
here alone, one after another, and take away your garments.
p If you do not come here, however, and if you lodge complaints with My father, I shall
not care anyway, for I know My father is old and cannot take any action against Me.”
p
p When the gopés saw that Kåñëa was strong and determined, they had no alternative but
to abide by His order.
p One after another they came out of the water, but because they were completely naked,
they tried to cover their nakedness by placing their left hand over their pubic area. In
that posture they were all shivering.
p Their simple presentation was so pure that Lord Kåñëa immediately became pleased
with them.
p All the unmarried gopés who prayed to Kätyäyané to have Kåñëa as their husband were
thus satisfied.
p A woman cannot be naked before any male except her husband.
p The unmarried gopés desired Kåñëa as their husband, and He fulfilled their desire in
this way.
p
p Being pleased with them, He took their garments on His shoulder and began to speak
as follows:
p “My dear girls, you have committed a great offense by going naked in the river
Yamunä.
p Because of this, the predominating deity of the Yamunä, Varuëadeva, has become
displeased with you.
p Please, therefore, just touch your foreheads with folded palms and bow down before the
demigod Varuëa in order to be excused from this offensive act.”
p The gopés were all simple souls, and whatever Kåñëa said they took to be true.
p In order to be freed from the wrath of Varuëadeva, as well as to fulfill the desired end
of their vows and ultimately to please their worshipable Lord, Kåñëa, they immediately
abided by His order.
p
p Lord Kåñëa was pleased with them, and since they all desired to have Him as their
husband, He told them,
p “My dear well-behaved girls, I know of your desire for Me and why you worshiped
goddess Kätyäyané, and I completely approve of your action. Anyone whose full
consciousness is always absorbed in Me, even if in lust, is elevated.
p As a fried seed cannot fructify, so any desire in connection with My loving service
cannot produce any fruitive result, as in ordinary karma.”
p “My dear gopés,” Kåñëa continued, “your desire to have Me as your husband will be
fulfilled because it is with this desire that you worshiped goddess Kätyäyané.
p I promise you that during the next autumn season you shall be able to meet with Me,
and you shall enjoy Me as your husband.”
p While passing through the forest of Våndävana on the bank of the Yamunä, Kåñëa sat
down at a beautiful spot and allowed the cows to drink the cold and transparent water
of the Yamunä.
p Being fatigued, the cowherd boys, Kåñëa and Balaräma also drank.
p Kåñëa passed the rest of the morning with the boys.
