Master Teachers – Overview of Responsibilities
Schedule
• Master Teachers shall log 10 interactions per week, with each interaction lasting a
minimum of 30 minutes.
• Interactions can include:
o One-on-one planning meeting
o Collaborative planning meeting
o Preplanned observation of teacher
o Feedback conversation with observed teacher
o Looking at student work with one or more teachers
o Modelling a lesson for one or more teachers
o Co-teaching a lesson with one or more teachers
o Providing professional development aligned to Master Teacher practices
during staff meeting
o Planning and learning for Master Teacher interactions alone or alongside
other Master Teacher(s)
o Coaching meeting with Senior Director of Teacher Leadership, Executive
Director of Educator Excellence, and/or other Curriculum & Instruction team
members.
o School level planning for future work with Leadership Team (should not
exceed 1/week during logged time)

Number of Colleagues Directly Supported


Master teachers will work one-on-one with 10-12 colleagues throughout the academic year
starting in the first quarter with 5 volunteers among their peers. New and novice teachers
should be prioritized. This number of colleagues does not include interactions designed to
serve groups of teachers.

Program Deliverables
• Log submitted bi-weekly to Senior Director of Teacher Leadership and School
Principal
o Log will be a formal record of all interactions.
o Each interaction must include:
▪ Name of Master Teacher
▪ Email Address
▪ School
▪ Date of Interaction
▪ Math or ELA
▪ Duration (minutes)
▪ Description of activities/services rendered (selected from drop down
list)
▪ Name of other teacher(s) (if applicable)
▪ Original signature of Master Teacher’s supervisor

• Events scheduled outside of the contract year or hours:
o Summer PD (not more than 5 days)
o Monthly PD (not more than 10 hours)

Evaluative Measures
• Standard, formal evaluation as teacher, based on time in classroom, pursuant to
collective bargaining agreement.
• Fulfillment of above program deliverables (log, attendance & participation at PD).
This will not be considered in formal evaluation above.
• Portfolio of Master Teacher learning, as maintained by Master Teacher and Senior
Director of Teacher Leadership and/or Executive Director of Educator Excellence.
This will not be considered in formal evaluation above.
