ELEMENT DETAILS
Introduction and ending Ensure your video starts with a title screen and include a brief introduction
of yourself. Close with an end screen so viewers know the video is complete.
Topics to be covered at a Within the video, you must summarize your key learnings that encompass
minimum the entire nuclear reaction unit including all three types of nuclear reactions.
Key areas to address (with examples) are:
- explain isotopes vs elements
- discuss alpha and beta particles and gamma radiation and example
reactions for each
- concept of half life and what it means and how it is used
In addition, I want you to research and share two uses of nuclear reactions
(you pick any type of reaction, please make them different reaction types).
Your discussion of the reactions should include:
- what is the reaction (equation and key particles, elements)?
- How is it used and why?
- What are two precautions that are taken regarding safeguarding people
from the effects of the radioactive material or the reaction?
Terms to use within the Demonstrating that you have learned the meaning and pronunciation of the
video many terms within the unit is critical. Below is a list of terms that are
mandatory to use verbally in the video. You must pronounce them and use
them correctly in the context of your narration.
electron neutron atomic number
proton fusion atomic mass
fission element gamma radiation
isotope energy radioactive decay
nucleus decay alpha particle
nuclear equation beta particle
charge half life mass balance
Use of Visuals As you’ve seen in the example videos, use examples liberally to complement
what you are talking about and to keep your audience’s attention. Showcase
your knowledge by ensure you show at least one example each of the
following in the video:
- atomic structure
- element or isotope abbreviation showing atomic mass and atomic
number
- nuclear reaction equation that is balanced
- Greek symbols for alpha particle, beta particle and gamma radiation
- half life graph of an isotope
- the two uses of nuclear reactions
Production quality Having a high quality product not only engages the audience, but shows your
pride in workmanship, ability to follow directions, and your attention to
detail. It is critical that when you have an example on screen that it matches
what you are talking about (audio visual sync) or else you will confuse your
viewers. In addition, the pacing of your speaking and use of visuals is
important so viewers can comprehend what you are showing them. Last,
share credit with where you pull information and visuals by citing the source.
Please upload the video on the submission area on the website. Here are key
aspects of the video production that will be assessed as part of your grade:
- video is between 10-12 minutes
- video is clear and easy to follow
- audio quality is clear and understandable
- visuals match the audio
- sources are cited in the video as appropriate
- video completed in .mpeg or .mov format
- video submitted electronically by due date
