QCA CUR 2018 Speaker Instructions-Program-Map PDF
We look forward to welcoming you to the QCA Conference of Undergraduate Research (QCA CUR)
2018 at the QCA South Bank Campus.
The final Program will be emailed to you the week prior to the Conference. A printed program will be
provided at the conference upon registration.
Conference Date and Time: Monday 8 October 2018 commencing at 9.00AM sharp.
Venue: QCA South Bank Campus, 226 Grey Street, South Bank
Conference Registration
The Registration Desk will be open from 8.30AM outside of S05 - the main lecture theatre of the
South Bank campus (Grey Street entrance). A Volunteer will sign you in and provide you with your
Speakers Lanyard and your Conference Program.
A Dropbox link has been shared with you via your student email address. You are required to submit
your FINAL QCA CUR presentation as a PDF by 5.00PM on Friday 5 October, 2018. Please call
your PDF file simply using your first and last name. The Assessment Panel will need access to all
presentations from the day of the conference for examination purposes. The Dropbox will be locked
from 7 October, 2018 and no further changes can be made.
Each presentation timeslot is strictly 15 minutes, plus 5 minutes Q&A. At 15 minutes, you will be
asked to stop your presentation. We advise a practice run to ensure your presentation keeps within
the time limit.
Please be in your session room 10 minutes prior to the start of your session to upload your
presentation and assist all sessions to run on time. Or, if you are programmed in the first session of
the day, please upload your presentation 20 minutes before the start of the day’s proceedings. DO
NOT arrive late to your session or your presentation. You are required to stay for the duration of your
entire session. This is standard conference etiquette.
If using a PowerPoint, Prezi or other suitable presentation format, place your file on a USB stick. All
PowerPoint presentations can be saved in either standard (4:3) or widescreen format (16:9). This can
be set on a Mac via Design > Slide Size.
* We advise you to have a backup version on your email, cloud or other easily accessible site in case
of any technology issues.

Refreshments
Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea are included in the conference. There will be a basic range of
vegetarian and gluten free meals available, including tea, coffee and fruit. We are unable to cater for
all needs, so if you have particular dietary requirements outside of these mentioned above, ensure
you bring your lunch.
The campus is close to many restaurants and bars. We encourage you to stay and meet with your
peers to celebrate the success of the day and continue the dialogues raised through sharing your
research. The courtyard at the Ship Inn has been booked for post-conference celebrations.
Attached is a map of the campus for those of you unfamiliar with the layout. The QCA Campus
buildings are situated at S02, S03, S04 and S05 (P5 on the attached map).
Driving: A word of warning - Parking is not guaranteed. South Bank is a busy environment with
current building works going on all around the campus, therefore if you choose to drive, note the costs
of parking may be high. Carpooling may be a wise and eco-friendly option.
Trains run between Varsity Lakes to South Bank campus regularly. Travel time is 1hr 10 mins.
Buses to and from the Gold Coast are available, but the journey is significantly longer and may
require swapping stations. Please check with your local bus service provider regarding the right route
for you. Buses stop close by the campus at the South Bank Busway.
NOTE: Please remember, this is a 100% Assessment item. If you do not attend your presentation
time as per the schedule, you will be graded a FNS (Fail No Submission). There is no provision in the
schedule for late presentations.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me on the below listed details.
Kind regards,
Dr Laini Burton
