Track and Field
 is a sport which includes athletic
contests established on the skills
of running, jumping, and
throwing.
 The foot racing events, which
include sprints, middle-distance
and long-distance events, race
walking and hurdling, are won by
the athlete with the fastest time.
 The jumping and throwing events
are won by the athlete who
achieves the greatest distance or
height.
 Regular jumping events include
long jump, triple jump, high jump
and pole vault, while the most
common throwing events are shot
put, javelin, discus and hammer.
 Events are almost exclusively
divided by gender, although both
the men's and women's
competitions are usually held at
the same venue.
HISTORY
 Track and field-style events are
among the oldest of all sporting
competitions, as running, jumping
and throwing are natural and
universal forms of human
physical expression.
 The first recorded examples of
organized track and field events
at a sports festival are the Ancient
Olympic Games.

 is the national governing body for
athletics sports such as track and
field, road running, cross country
running, and race walking in the
Philippines.
EVENTS (RUNNING)
Sprints
 Sprinting events are focused
around athletes reaching and
 sustaining their quickest possible
running speed.
 Three sprinting events: 100
meters, 200 meters, and 400
meters.
Middle distance
 Runners start the race from a
standing position along a curved
starting line and after hearing the
starter's pistol they head towards
the innermost track to follow the
quickest route to the finish.
Long distance
 long distance track races have
much in common with middle-
distance races, except that
pacing, stamina, and race tactics
become much greater factors in
performances.
Relay races
 are the only track and field event
in which a team of runners
directly compete against other
teams.
Hurdling
 is the act of running and jumping
over an obstacle at speed.
Steeplechase
 is an obstacle race in athletics,
which derives its name from the
steeplechase in horse racing.
EVENTS (JUMPING)
Long jump
 The athletes would take a short
run up and jump into an area of
dug up earth, with the winner
being the one who jumped
farthest.
Triple jump
 the triple jump takes place on a
track heading towards a sandpit.
High jump
 Athletes have a short run up and
then take off from one foot to
jump over a horizontal bar and fall
back onto a cushioned landing
area.
Pole vault
 is a track and field event in which
a person uses a long, flexible pole
(which today is usually made
either of fiberglass or carbon
fiber) as an aid to jump over a bar.
EVENTS (THROWING)
Shot put
 involving "throwing"/"putting"
(throwing in a pushing motion) a
heavy spherical object—the
shot—as far as possible.
Discus throw
 events where the athlete has to
throw a heavy disc in the attempt
to mark a farther distance than
their competitors.
Javelin throw
 is a track and field event where
the javelin, a spear about 2.5 m (8
ft 2 in) in length, is thrown. The
javelin thrower gains momentum
 by running within a
predetermined area.

Hammer throw

 The hammer throw is one of the

four throwing events in regular
track and field competitions,
along with the discus throw, shot
put and javelin. It consists of a
metal ball attached by a steel wire
to a grip.
