By Jhun Paul G. Alacre

BSED-Math 4, STI West Negros University | April 2, 2019

After series of activities, 75% of the students with at least 80%

OBJECTIVES:
proficiency should be able to:
1. Differentiate Percentile for ungrouped data form quartile and
Knowledge
decile.
Skills 2. Solve problems involving percentile of ungrouped data.
Attitude 3. Appreciate the relevance of the topic to real-life situations.
SUBJECT MATTER:
Topic Solving for the Percentile of Ungrouped Data
The percentiles determine the value for 1%, 2%,…, and 99% of the
data.
Concept To find its position (P), the formula, 𝑃 = 𝑘(𝑛 + 1) and round off
𝑘
to the nearest integer. 100

DEVELOPMENT OF
THE LESSON:
Pre-Activity 1. Prayer
2. Cheking of Attendance
3. Checking of Assignment
4. Drill:
20, 35, 55, 28, 46, 32, 25, 56, 55, 28, 37, 60, 47, 52, 17, 33
From the data above, find the following:
1. 2nd decile 2. 6th decile 3. 8th decile
4. 1st quartile 5. 3rd quartile 6. 2nd quartile
5. Review:
a. what are the measures of position?
b. how do you solve for a the quartiles of an ungrouped data?
c. what are the steps in solving for the deciles of an ungrouped data?
Pre-Activity
6. Motivation:
Heart took a 100 item placement test for a scolarship grant. Her
score was 87, the rest of the scores were:
79, 93, 80, 64, 93, 72, 55, 89, 88, 84, 77, 63, 48, 66, 95, 70, 76, 82, 92,
74, 58, 43, 78, 71, 84, 94, 87, 86, 94, 59, 60, 90, 85, 78, 80, 70, 73, 75.
Base on percentile rank, what is Heart's place?
7. Presentation:
To answer the question, we will first arrange the scors in order. And
using the formula for percentile, solve for Heart's percentile rank.
YOU'RE MY WORLD!
a. group the students into 10 and give each group and each group
will act as one judge of the Miss World Pageant.
b. Select one female from each group to be a candidate in the
Activity pageant.
c. Have them ramp like beauty queens, then, group 1's
representative will be scored (1-10 use decimals) by group 2, group
2's rep will be scored by group 3 and so on.
d. Write all score on the board and have the students solve for P 35,
P60, P40, P80, and P50.
ANALYSIS:a. Based on the listed outcome, what did you notice on the
scores of the candidates?b. How did you solve for the percentile
Post-Activity scores?c. What would be the general formula for getting the
percentile?d. How will the scores be interpreted.e. create a situation
where percentile can be applied.
ABSTRACTION:
a. How would you differentiate percentile from quartile and decile?
b. How can you solve problems involving percentile?
c. How can percentile be applied to real-life situations?
APPLICATION:
a. From your last math quiz results, get the names of those whose
scores are above the 80% of the class.
b. Among the scores, find P50, P45, P95, P70 and P68.
EVALUATION: Solve the following items using the given ungruped data below:
5, 7, 12, 14, 15, 22, 25, 30, 36, 42, 53, 65

1. P7 6. Q2
65(𝑛 + 1)
2. 7. D4
100
3. 90(𝑛 + 1) 8. P40
100
4. P9 9. P52

5. P88 10. P54

REMEDIATION: A total of 8000 people visited a shopping mall over 12 hours.

Time(hrs) People
2 450
4 1500
6 2300
8 5700
10 6850
12 8000

Estimate the third quartile (when 75% of the visitors had arrived)
Estimate the 40th percentile (when 40% of the visitors had arrived)
ASSIGNMENT: Answer Activity 13 on page 378 of Grade 10 Learner's Module. Write
your answer in 1/2 sheet of intermediate paper. Show your solution.
