Abstract

This is a content analysis on selected national newspaper

coverage of health and nutrition related contents on holiday

health risk topics within the Christmas week 2018. Summative

approach, manifest content coding and interpretive analysis was

applied. The researcher included all newspaper sections in

identifying health news’ general ideas and classifying whether

it is related holiday health risk and if contributed to its

awareness and prevention on such situations. Listing and

classification-led analysis were intended, in part, to deduct

the flow of information about the presence of holiday health

risk topic in the local newspapers to arrive to a conclusion.

Findings showed that the health news within the holiday week

was positively inclined news but not directly associated and

devoted to topics on higher health risks during the holidays,

for it was confined to a limited timeframe. The researcher

provided interpretation of this study for future related

community-based newspaper content analysis.
