JudyGails Place is operating within its first year. We formally applied for our
501c3 in January of 2016, but the application hasn’t yet been completed by the
IRS. Attached is a copy of the letter we received to prove that we have applied
for 501c3 status.

Purpose of JudyGails Place:

The purpose of this event centers around the resources that JGP can provide a
victim of domestic violence who needs to transition into a more secure
environment. Needs may include, but are not limited to, assistance with fees for
school, assistance with legal fees, basic home furnishings, personal effects, and
where applicable, child appropriate necessities.

Many individuals who need to escape domestic violence situations do not qualify
for low-income benefits because they are only temporarily in need. Most of the
needs are small, but make a huge difference in the families ability to obtain basic
necessities that will allow them to remain out of the violent partners control.
Some individuals that JudyGails Place works with are not native to the country,
they have limited communication skills, and most of their family and social
support lives out of the country. To date every family that JudyGails Place is
working with have one or more children under the age of 13. Access to
transitionary services helps ensure these families have the ability to become self-
sufficient without returning to the abusive environment.

Organization’s Mission Statement:

JudyGail’s Place (JGP) is a corporation formed in 2015. We have formally

applied for our 501c3 in January of 2016. JGP partners with other services

available in the communities they serve to provide transitional aid, services and
resources to families who are leaving domestic violent situations. JGP plans to
reside in Los Alamos county, but will offer services to individuals from Rio Arriba,
Taos, Mora and northern Santa Fe counties as well. JGP is supported by grants,
private and public contributions. The ultimate goal of JGP is to help their clients
achieve emotional stability, financial sufficiency and when appropriate transitional
housing for a period not to exceed 24 months.

Membership Demographic.

Los Alamos New Mexico houses a national laboratory but many families who
work at the laboratory commute between 30 and 80 miles every day because
they can not afford to live directly in Los Alamos.

The need for transitional services is great. The need is increased for the first 24
months after leaving an intimate partner situation, due to the extensive cost of
attorneys and the time that it takes to formalize legal decisions or orders. Often
these families wait 18 months or more before they see any spousal or child
support even when they are represented by an attorney.

The lack of ongoing support services increases the vulnerability of these families
during their transition away from abusive homes. Statistics show that victims of
domestic violence are 80% more likely to be murdered while they are attempting
to leave. In 2015, New Mexico was given the 3rd highest domestic violence
rates in the nation and the highest rate of death as a result of intimate partner
violence. JudyGails Place believes that one of the reasons for the increased
death rate is the lack of transitional services.

JudyGails working members and volunteers are mostly single mothers

themselves who have experienced abuse in their households at some point in
their lives. The individuals who serve as members that have not lived directly in
abuse, have close family members who have. Abuse doesn’t determine its
victims based on social status, age, economic change, sexual preferences or
even racial lines. The first hand understanding of the destruction that intimate
partner violence causes in children and families is enough to drive our team to
reach out with passion to families who need financial assistance while they
transition.

Phase 1 officially ended January 2016 when the 501c3 was submitted.

Phase 3 will not begin until 2019, because we need to remodel and secure funding for
housing before this phase of the project can begin. (estimated start date 2018).
