Synthesis: Metaphysics (Sem. John Raven C.

Angeles)

Metaphysics has been conducive in studying theology because theology per se has

employed the metaphysical terminologies, more so Metaphysical knowledge did acquaint to

traditional Theology to extend the limit of Theological Science under the supernatural light of

reason. Etymologically speaking, metaphysics derived its appellation to the Greek term meta ta

physica ,which means come after physical things. Metaphysics is the branch of philosophy that

deals with the study of being as being through systematic and ordered body of established certain

truths. As the other branches of knowledge have, metaphysics has its material and formal object,

the former connotes the study in general, being (everything which exists and can exist), and the

latter connotes, the specific object or the particular study which are the nature, attributes and

principles of being. Being is a thing that has existence and a something which is actual, and its

actuality and existence is its formal feature. Being is something real as long as it has existence

and can be found in the external world and in the realm of reality. Being is something that has

reality which implies that a thing is self-inclusive and Being is something that has nature, it should

have a specific nature where the actuality of being conforms. Definition in an Aristotelian logic,

is the determination of genus and specific difference in order to define something where this mode

cannot be apt because this is a mere logical definition, for we cannot find any general and specific

constituent feature of being. However, the term perhaps can be, the verbal manifestation of idea

where the idea is derived from the simple apprehension. Therefore, being can be define by

employing nominal definition or real definition.
