I would suggest Bako National Park in Sarawak as your family
enjoys Mother Nature. I've been there and the place is simply
magnificent! The scenery is breathtaking. The park is rich in
wildlife and plants. Since you enjoy jungle trekking, you will
like the well-marked trails. You can also see macaque monkeys
and the rare proboscis monkeys. We saw proboscis monkeys
early in the morning! It was a unique experience. The park also
has white sandy beaches and small bays.

SECTION G: Notes Expansion
Practice 1
Deepavali is celebrated annually by the Hindus in Malaysia. It
is also known as the Festival of Lights. This festival
symbolises the triumph of good over evil. It is usually
celebrated in November. The celebrations can last for 5 days.
Preparation for Deepavali starts a few weeks earlier. The
Hindus will start cleaning the house to have good luck and
blessings. Oil lamps are lit and placed outside the house,
especially at the porch and the balcony. Families will make
traditional cakes, sweets, biscuits and other special treats. This
is also the time to buy new clothes in bright colours.
On Deepavali morning, Hindus have an oil bath before sunrise.
This is likened to bathing in the holy Ganges River. Then, they
will visit the temple to offer prayers and perform ceremonial
rites. After that, they will have a grand feast of Indian
delicacies such as rice puddings, Indian pancakes and
murukku. Sweetmeats like laddu will be served too. Soon,
families will be kept busy serving their guests. The day ends
with the children and adults playing fireworks.
The celebration of Deepavali is important in developing a spirit
of neighbourliness. It is a great way for the different races to
get to know each other.
Practice 2
XX Last Saturday, I watched an interschool badminton
tournament at Kompleks Sukan Titiwangsa. I wanted to show
support to Danny Adam, the top badminton player in my
already packed with spectators sitting on the bleachers.
XX Danny Adam played against Remi Haris of SM Tuanku
Ibrahim. It was a highly-charged game as the enthusiastic
Danny leading the service. I cheered Danny on to keep doing
his best. My voice grew hoarse after all the cheering. Other
spectators beat their drums loudly and cheered the players.
XX The excitement in the complex continued to build up
point to win the game. Remi's supporters were disappointed
with his loss. Both players looked tired but they shook hands as
a gesture of sportsmanship. They waved at the crowd to thank
them for their support.
I left the sports complex, feeling happy with the result as
Danny had won. It was also an exciting game with both players
performing their best. I could feel the euphoria in the stadium
as I headed home.
Practice 3
XX I had my first experience of a flood in late November last
year had been a heavy downpour for the past few days. Since it
was the monsoon season, we thought it was a normal
occurrence. To our dismay, the rain did not let up and soon, our
neighbourhood was flooded.
XX We were totally caught by surprise. We desperately tried to
salvage our belongings but the flood water had risen too fast.
Muddy water was flowing fast into our home, submerging all
the\furniture.
XX In less than two hours, the flood swept away everything in
its path. Almost all the vehicles were half-submerged. Some
residents climbed to the rooftops and waited for the rescue
boats. We also
climbed to the rooftop. Later, we were taken by search and
rescue staff to a flood relief centre. We stayed there for four
days until the floods subsided.
XX It was a scary experience which I will never forget. We
decided to prepare ourselves for a flood during the monsoon
season in the future.
Practice 4
XX On 25 June 2019, I visited an old folks' home, Sunshine
Home, with members of the Welfare Club in my school. The
home was located in Bandar Kerawang. When we arrived, the
caretaker greeted us at the door.
XX We had packed porridge, buns and sandwiches for the
bresidents. Some of the residents had difficulty eating, so a few
of us fed them. After breakfast, we sang a few songs. Later, we
talked to several residents who told us interesting stories.
Meanwhile, I read a book to some residents while another
member played chess with a resident.
XX After lunch, the residents took a nap. We helped to clean
up the home. Some of us even repaired some broken chairs and
painted the gate. When the residents woke up, we had tea.
XX Soon, it was time for us to leave. The residents felt sad. We
promised to visit them again soon. All of us felt good about the
visit. We had spent time with some old folks. It was pure joy to
see their faces lit up with smiles and excitement.
Practice 5
XX It was a hot Tuesday night. I was about to open my
bedroom window when I saw a slight movement near my
neighbour's house. To my horror, a robber was climbing up the
gate. My neighbours were abroad, so nobody was at home. I
quickly ran downstairs to inform my parents who were
watching television.
XXMy father quickly called the police. My mother and I kept
watch over our neighbour's house. Within minutes, a patrol car
arrived at the scene. Two police officers got out from the car.
The first officer quietly entered my neighbour's house while the
second one hid behind a pillar under the porch.
Suddenly, we heard loud shouts inside the house. A few
minutes later, the robber was running out of the house, with the
first officer giving chase. The robber tried to escape but the
second officer managed to nab him.
We were relieved that the robber had been caught. The officers
praised us for our quick actions and for being public-spirited.
Practice 6
It was a dark and gloomy morning. I was walking to school
with an umbrella in my hand in case it rained. As I approached
my school, I was shocked to find a motorcyclist lying on the
roadside. He was groaning in pain and pointed to his elbow.
His damaged motorcycle lay on the road beside him. I think he
had hit a tree and fallen off his motorcycle.
The man identified himself as Encik Johari. I bandaged his
elbow with a cloth that I pulled out from my pocket. Then, I
flagged down a passing car and explained my situation to the
driver. He kindly offered to help us. He called the ambulance
on his smartphone. Within 5 minutes, we heard the wail of the
ambulance siren. The paramedics checked Encik Johari's pulse
and put him on a stretcher before taking him to hospital. I was
relieved that I had helped him. I had done a good deed.
About a week later, the principal came to my class with our
new Mathematics teacher. My jaw dropped as Encik Johari
greeted us. He was the man I had helped that morning.
Practice 7
Inventors of the Future Workshop
Recently, SMK Mawar Puteri organised the Inventors of the
Future Workshop from 20 to 21 August 2019. A total of 200
students took part. The participants were lower secondary
students from schools in the Klang Valley. The event, which
took place at Dewan Ilmu, was aimed at building students'
creativity in technology.
On the first day, Dr Amiruddin Hassan, a Science and
Technology lecturer, talked about how present-day machines
were developed and engineered. He explained how the parts of
these machines functioned. The talk was very informative and
interesting.
On the second day, the participants worked in groups to create
useful inventions. They could only use the tools and materials
provided by the organiser. The purpose of the project was to
develop students' skills and creativity as well as to promote
team work. Each group was encouraged to think out of the box.
Students had fun working together and throwing ideas around.
The workshop was not just educational but enjoyable too. The
participants explored many ideas together. They also
discovered that they can be more creative when they set their
minds to it. It is hoped that more of such workshops will be
organised to encourage creativity and promote interest in
technology.
