To the Mayor and Council of the City of Phoenix

A Citizen Petition

WHEREAS,

On May 27th, 2019 Mr. Dravon Ames, Ms. Iesha Harper, and their two little girls (ages 1 and 4) were
viciously physically assaulted, held at gun point, verbally abused, and had their civil rights violated…

WHEREAS,

The mayor and police chief of the City of Phoenix have both apologized and expressed being “sickened”
and “shocked” by the unlawful behavior of the officers involved, particularly “Officer Meyer” and “Office
John Doe” (the officers recorded as the ring leaders)…

WHEREAS,

The officers involved violated police and city employee policies and committed criminal acts that appear
to have violated federal and state civil rights laws, including holding a pregnant mother and her children
at gun point, dislocating an infant’s arm, torturing an unarmed father, and endangering their lives…

WHEREAS,

The police attack on the Ames-Harper Family has resulted in near universal condemnation from
residents of our city and throughout the nation and the world, was recorded on video, and has been
described by all as indefensible and unjustifiable …

WHEREAS,

The Family has asked that the officers be FIRED IMMEDIATELY and then afforded ALL of the DUE
PROCESS RIGHTS of TERMINATED EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF PHOENIX…

THEREFOR,

Pursuant to Chapter IV, Section 22 of the City of Phoenix Charter, I, Rev. Jarrett Maupin, a citizen, and
resident of the City of Phoenix, hereby petition the Mayor and Council, to consider - expeditiously - and
enact within 15 days, a resolution(s), ordinance(s), or measure(s) or action(s) that will:

1. Direct the City Manager to TERMINATE THE EMPLOYMENT of “Officer Meyer” and “Officer
John Doe” and SUSPEND WITHOUT PAY/DEMOTE/RETRAIN ALL OTHER OFFICERS INVOLVED.

Respectfully Submitted,
Wednesday, July 19th, 2019

Rev. Jarrett Maupin
