Discussion 5:

In this lecture, I learned about Newton’s 2nd and 3rd law of motion. Newton’s 2nd law
states that “the acceleration of an object is dependent upon two variables - the net force
acting upon the object and the mass of the object. F=ma. Newton’s 3rd law states that
“For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction”.

Answer 1:
Galileo’s experiment obeys the 2nd law of Newton which is known as 2nd law of
motion. According to 2nd law of motion “The acceleration of an object is dependent upon
two variables - the net force acting upon the object and the mass of the object”. Formula is
a=F/m. This acceleration “a” is always the force of gravity g. This law explains that all the
body falls with the same speed unless there weights are same.

Answer 2:
The regular dart will the ground first because according to Newton’s second law
a=F/m. We can easily see that there inverse relation between acceleration and mass. So if
mass is low, acerbation (gravitational force g) will higher. That why normal dart will hit
the ground first.

Answer 3:
According to newton’s 2nd law F=ma. Now m= 1kg and a=9.8 (this is
acceleration due to gravity g).
F=ma = (1kg)(9.8)
F= 9.8N

Answer 4:
If the action force is pulling the rocks towards the earth. The reaction force is
supporting force of the earth who supports the rocks. It’s a clear example of Newton’s 3rd
law of motion.
Answer 5:
He experience the same tension in both the situations. I think the tension may be
doubled if there are 2 horses on side and a tree on other side.

Answer 6:
The scale would read 100 N because according to Newton’s 3rd law “For every
action, there is an equal and opposite reaction”. So on the both side weight is same so the
scale would read 100N.
