INTRODUCTION
Aside from Jeepneys, tricycles are the second most popular means of
transportation here in the Philippines. These vehicles have been around for quite some
time that banning them is really impossible.
Tricycle or sometimes called as “trike” is a three-wheeled public utility vehicle
consisting of a motorcycle and an attached passenger’s side car. The motorcycle is on
the left side and a side car on the right side. These trikes can be found everywhere in the
country except on major or main roads.
They are painted colorfully and built in a variety of styles which differ from city to
city. The regular trike can accommodate three to five passengers and luggage can be
placed on the roof. Three people can fit inside the side car and usually one or two
passengers can ride behind the driver.
Jeepneys have fixed routes so the big advantage of the trike is that it will bring you
to every desired place.
Fare starts from Php8.00 and up, depending on the locality and the distance to be
ridden. They are always available, cheap and fast. If you want to pay the lowest fare, you
will wait until the trike is filled up with passengers. But if you want the tricycle exclusively,
just tell the driver you want a “special” ride. He will charge a little extra but it’s more
comfortable to ride alone.
The tricycle is a Philippine transportation vehicle that is so versatile. It is adaptable
in rural and urban applications. It can serve passengers rain or shine. It can take one to
several street corners, the next town, or even the next city or province for the right contract
fare. Tricycles are known to rule even national highways.
Normally, a tricycle can accommodate 4 passengers (including the driver), if safety
measures are considered. But often one will see this Philippine transportation vehicle
carrying 10 to 20 passengers, mostly daring students or youths, squeezed in the sidecar
and at the backseat behind the driver, some hanging from the rear and side of the sidecar
and more atop its roof.
Earlier, Dagupan city mayor conducted about the color coding of their uniform
where every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday tricycle drivers should be wearing shirt that
is colored blue. During Tuesday and Thursday they are applicable to wear any green shirt.
Lastly, Saturdays and Sundays are any colored shirt.
The POSO of Dagupan City informed the tricycle drivers about the policy where
they should not refuse the passengers, they shouldn’t be overcharging the passengers,
overloading, and discourteous to the passengers if this happens, passengers may
complain by just texting or calling POSO of Dagupan.
TRICYCLE FARE MATRIX FOR: Special Hire or from HOLDING AREA (TODA)
P20.00 per single person or solo trip for 3km,
P10.00 every passenger for 2-3 passenger trip for 3km and P16.00 for single solo
passenger (Student, Senior Citizens and PWDs) for 3km for every kilometer thereafter
additional P2.00 per passenger should be added.
FOR the regular FARE or NON HOLDING AREA
P10.00 per passenger and P8.00 per passenger for student, senior citizen and
PWDs for 1st 3km additional of P2.00 per passenger for every kilometer thereafter.

II. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The study aims to know about the problems of fares in tricycle drivers and
answers the questions and provide solutions for the problem

1. How much is the additional fare per kilometer?

2. How does the fuel price increase affect fares?
3. Does the fare discount apply to students and senior citizens?
4. Apart from distance, does the delivery area affect the fare?

III. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This research is important because it could help several problems about

fares in tricycle.

Commuters. This study will help the commuters about the fares they are
paying when riding a tricycle.

Tricycle Drivers. This study tends to let the tricycle drivers know about the
fares that the passengers are paying to them and a guide for them what would
be the right amount to pay.

POSO. This study helps the public office in order to be aware of the fares and
the actions that the tricycle drivers are doing.

Senior Citizens. This study will benefit the senior citizens about the discount
that should be deducted from their fare.
IV. SCOPE AND DELIMITATION
The study is limited only about the fares of the passengers that they are paying
when riding a tricycle. This concerns about the fares and discount that should be applied
for everyone.
This study seek to find answers about on how the tricycle drivers manages their
passengers and on how they are able to tell the right amount of the fare that depends on
the distance of the place.
This would help the commuters about the questions that are asked to each tricycle
drivers of each TODAS. The study covers the passengers, fares and discount, and the
distance of the travel. Also, this would benefit all from knowing about and be aware of
overcharging and what will be the right way not to be caught by the authority about
overloading and refusal of the passengers and being discourteous for the drivers.
We conducted our research study here in Dagupan City where we interviewed
tricycle drivers about the questions we formulated. We’ve interviewed three tricycle
drivers that belong to their assigned TODA. On that, we’ve
