Procedure: Designating Components On-the-Fly


Before you begin Hide/Unhide

Training Files:
Download the training files using the button below, if you have not done so already.

Download

Procedure Setup:
1. To avoid naming conflicts, it is recommended you save your work, click File > Close until no models
display, then click File > Manage Session > Erase Not Displayed.

2. Click File > Manage Session > Set Working Directory and navigate to the PTCU\CreoParametric2
\Cabling\Designate_On-the-Fly folder and click OK

3. Click File > Open and double-click CABLING.ASM.

Task 1. View port parameters on two connectors.

1. Enable only the following Datum Display types: .

2. In the ribbon, select the Applications tab.

3. Click Cabling from the Engineering group.

4. In the model tree, select CONN_9PIN.PRT, right-click, and select Open.

5. Select the ENTRY coordinate system.

6. Right-click and select Edit Parameters.


◾ Notice the defined parameters.

◾ Click OK.

◾ Click Close from the Quick Access toolbar.

7. Select SPADE.PRT, right-click, and select Open.

8. Select the ENTRY coordinate system.

9. Right-click and select Edit Parameters.


◾ Notice that there are no parameters.

◾ Click OK.

◾ Click Close .

Task 2. Designate components on-the-fly.

1. Click Modify Harness from the Harness group.


◾ Click HARNESS_1 and then click Done from the menu manager.

2. Click Route Cables from the Route group.

◾ Click New Wire in the Route cables dialog box.

◾ In the graphics window, right-click and enable Allow undesignated CSYS.

3. Select Csys ENTRY on the CONN_9PIN.PRT connector.

◾ Read the message and click OK.

◾ Press ENTER to accept the default parameters.

4. Select Csys ENTRY on SPADE.PRT.

◾ Press ENTER to accept the default parameters.

5. Click OK.

Task 3. View the cabling parameters of the designated components.

1. Click Cabling Parameters from the Components group.


◾ Press CTRL and select the two designated components.

◾ Click OK in the Select dialog box.

2. In the Electrical Parameters dialog box, edit the REF_DES column values, as shown.

◾ Click Apply.

3. Enable Entry Ports in the Display For section and expand both connectors and the respective ENTRY
PORTS nodes.
◾ Notice the TYPE and INT_LENGTH values for the Entry Ports.

◾ Click OK.

4. Disable Csys Display from the In Graphics toolbar.

5. Click Ref Designator Labels from the In Graphics toolbar to enable their display.
