U12 consists of the VGA circuit controlling the receiving signal level by use of the IF
AGC CTRL signal and 2 MIX. Also, differential output (184.32 MHz) of 2nd Lo PLL
nd
of U6 is input to U12 and BPSK signal (92.1675 MHz) is changed to 2 IF-I signal and
- Q signal of 7.5 kHz, that are output from the RF CON board, are output to the TERM
CPU (COMM CPU) board at -38 dBm(controlled signal level by AGC).

3. PLL circuit
TCXO of Y1: 30.72 MHz is the reference oscillator for 1st PLL and 2nd PLL circuit.
If the above PLL local oscillation frequency is deviated, the error rate increases without
being converted into correct frequency.
As for method of PLL control, converts the receive frequency from satellites to the Base
band in the CPU of TERMCPU (COMMCPU), performs FFT analysis, and then
controls the TCXO to make the received modulation rate (ex; 1200 sps) match the
difference of frequency /phase.
TCXO control can be checked at “TCXO Control” on the Status screen. Also, the offset
value of TCXO can be checked at "REF Offset Freq" and OK appears if this value is
150 Hz or lower.

If either of two PLL circuits becomes UNLOCKED, the error message "TROUBLE:
Synthesizer UNLOCK" appears.

5.3 BDE

As for processing of receiving signals,

I and Q signals of 2nd IF 7.5 kHz, which are input from the RF CON board, are input
into CPU via CODEC and processed to signals. For example, steps for processing
receiving signals of NCS/MES TDM channels are as follows.
I, Q Signal -> Detecting U.W (Frame Sync.) -> De-Permuting -> De-Interleaving
-> Viterbi Decoding -> De-Scrambling -> Packet detection -> Message

Transmitting signals are

processed according to channel. Processed digital data is sent to the RF CON board as
TX DATA and then converted to the RF signal of 1.6 GHz band, which is BPSK
modulated. Basic steps of processes according to channel are as follows.
- Transmission on MES Signaling Channel
Message -> Scrambling -> Convolution Encoding -> Adding U.W
-> BPSK Modulation
- Transmission on MES Message Channel
Message -> Scrambling -> Convolution Encoding -> Adding U.W
-> Interleaving-> Permuting -> Adding Pre-amble -> BPSK Modulation
- Transmission on NCS/LES TDM Channel
Message -> Scrambling -> Convolution Encoding -> Adding U.W
-> Interleaving-> Permuting -> BPSK Modulation

Convolution Encoding
Convolution Encoding (Convolution code) is a method that the receiving side
controls to decrease the error rate. This method adds the redundancy bit having the
predetermined pattern to the data bit string. By performing viterbi decoding at the
receiving side, the erroneously received bit can be corrected if the number of bits is
less than the predefined number.

Viterbi Decoding
The signal is returned to the signal on which Convolution Encoding is performed. If
any error is found, the error is corrected by Viterbi Decoding. The burst error is also
corrected by combining with the interleaving.

Scrambling
Scrambling mixes "0" and "1" moderately in order to prevent "0" or "1" from
continuing excessively. If "1" or "0" data continues when decoding BPSK modulated
wave is decoded, clock recovery would be reduced and modulation cannot be
performed. This processing prevents this problem.

De-Scrambling
Scrambled signal is decoded.

U.W (Unique Word)

The specific bit pattern is added for bit synchronization at the receiving party.

Frame Sync.
The U.W (Unique Word) is detected and synchronized with the frame signal.

5.3 BDE

Interleaving, Permuting
If there is a block error in the bit string, it is hard to correct the error.
Interleaving is used for inputting the bit rate in the Interleaving matrix and reading
out the bit rate in the appropriate sequence. Reading process is referred to a
"Permuting."
Even if a block error occurs on the communication path, the block error is dispersed
when correcting the block error at the receiving party; therefore correcting error is
easy.

De-Permuting, De-Interleaving
De-Permuting is the process used for inputting the modulated signal to the interleave
matrix by reversing procedure of Permuting.
De-Interleaving is the process used for extracting signals from the interleave matrix
by reversing the procedure of Interleaving.

Pre-amble
Preamble consists of the carrier recovery bits and the clock regeneration bits for easy
synchronization at the receiving party.

BPSK (Binary Shift Keying)

Depending on carrier phase difference, BPSK is expressed as "0" or "1". For example,
data signal "0" indicates that no phase is shifted (0 degrees); and data signal "1"
indicates that the phase is shifted 180 degrees.
