A. INTRODUCTION:

On reference from Executive Engineer, Road Infrastructure, East, BBMP, Bangalore vide Work
Order No. EE/RI-East/W0/36/2013-14 dated: 21 .01.2014. Design mix of Dense Grade
Bituminous Macadam for the work of Improvements and asplzalting of Arterial and Sub Arterial
roads in East Zone for 2013-14 GOIC grants - Package - 2 in our laborato~-yvide our reference Test
Order No. 11722 dated: 27.01.2014.

The important criteria kept in view while designing the mixes are gradation of aggregate and density
of the mix.

The recommended mix is obtained on the material properties and also the specific requi~e~nents
of
the job.

B. MATERIALS:

1. Bitumen : Grade - 60170

2. Aggregate : Coarse Aggregate - Angular crusher broken 201nm, 12mm, 6mm

down size.

Fine Aggregate - Coarsed dust.

The results of test conducted on above materials are tabulated in Table 1,2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

C. DENSE GRADED BITUMINOUS MACADAM:

The details of the lnix design carried out are shown in Table 5. The same has been summarized is as
below:

Recommended proportion of coarse aggregate 201m down size : 24%

Recommended proportion of coarse aggregate 121m down size : 22%
Recommended proportion of coarse aggregate 6mm d o m size 20%
Recommended proportion of fine aggregate, i.e. Coarsed dust 34%
Bitumen content w i n ) 4.5%

D. CONCLUSIONS:

The mix design has been carried out using the constituent materials supplied by the customer. The
mix proportions suggested is arrived at based on the characteristics of the constituents and tested
for conformity to the specifications. The recoinlnellded mix is satisfying customer's criteria and
satisfying all other requirements.
