There are many artifacts that could represent this domain. Engaging and supporting
students in learning is something that teachers do everyday. The first artifact I chose is an article
review of an article titled, Empowering Mathematicians through Modeling. Using the modeling
approach within the mathematics classroom is a great way to make content accessible while
keeping the students engaged. This instructional strategy helps students improve their problem
solving performance and enhance their skills. It is a great way to support students in their
learning.
The second artifact I chose to include is a picture of my students during our Pythagorean
theorem investigations unit. The day before, we had read a book titled, “What’s your angle
Pythagoras?” My students saw that if they built a square on the legs of the triangle they could use
that same number of squares on the longest side. I had given groups of students different types of
triangles to see when this would work. They came to the conclusion that this theorem only
worked with a right triangle. They loved doing this activity as a team.
The third artifact I chose is something that my students really love to do. When learning
the different algebraic rules and how to solve problems, I set up equations on a large poster
paper. I separate the students into groups and they write the first step. Then they rotate to another
poster and have to write the step of the previous group and then complete the second step. This is
a great way to keep them engaged throughout their practice of solving algebraic problems and it
helps them to really think about the different laws of algebra. Sometimes their first step doesn’t
match another groups. It is great for them to see more than one way to solve a problem.

The last artifact I included is a description on The Nurtured Heart Approach. This is an
approach we take with our students since most of them exhibit challenging behavior. It follows
the idea that negative behaviors should be given no energy and the positive behaviors should be
reinforced. There is a set way of doing this that is included in the powerpoint. Having clear limits
