Reflection
Year One

During my first year as a classroom teacher, I will begin participating in a teacher

induction program in an effort to clear my credential after two years. This process will

provide me with a mentor and allow me to build my skills as a teacher. I will also earn

units for this process. I will also be completing my master’s program this year in addition

to attending a writing conference in which I will learn strategies related to teaching

writing to young students. This conference is put on by the Writing Project based out of

UC Davis and it worth two continuing education credits.

Year Two

In year two, I will finish my teacher induction program and will officially obtain a

clear credential. I would also like to attend a Love and Logic in the Classroom training

that my school district offers to their teachers. During my student teaching experience,

one of my master teachers participated in this training and shared many valuable tools

with me. I am familiar with the Love and Logic approach as it relates to parenting and I

very interested in learning related strategies to utilize in the classroom.

Year Three

During my third year I would like to become a Glad Certified teacher. While

Student Teaching, one of my master teachers was going through this process and I got

to witness first hand some of the Glad strategies that are used in the classroom. I really

liked some of the Glad Strategies students too part in and the unique way students were

able to participate. I would also like to attend another conference related to teaching

young students in an effort to earn additional continuing education credit. Preferably this

will be in the area of writing or reading. I will be looking for local conferences such as

another one from The Writing Project or one sponsored by California State University,

College of Continuing Education.

Year Four

My plan for year four includes taking two continuing education courses

sponsored by San Diego State University and involves learning about technology in the

classroom and how to use this technology to enhance teaching. Additionally, I would

like to become more involved with technology within my district and participate as a

technology liaison between the district and my school site. I have a lot to learn as it

relates to technology and I find this subject challenging by necessary. It is important to

me to know what is on the cutting edge as it relates to technology in the classroom.

Many students are very tech savvy from a very young age and I believe utilizing

technology in the classroom with help with engagement and can be used to enhance

instruction. During this time, I would also like to become the grade level lead at my

school site. If I stay within my grade level, I believe that at this point I will be equipped to

take on more of a leadership role at my school site.

Year Five

Earning a Reading Specialist Certification is something I have wanted to do for

quite some time but I have read that you must be a teacher for at least three years

before you can begin obtaining this certification. I would like to earn this certification so

that I am very well versed in this subject matter and can help not only my students but

other teachers as well. During this time period, I will begin taking courses to achieve this

goal.

Sharing my Timeline

I will utilize this timeline during by induction program when I meet with my

teaching coach and Principal. I believe it is imperative to show others that you are goal

centered and that you have a plan for what you would like to achieve in your career.

When my induction coach and principal have an understanding of my goals and

timeline, they can help me with achieving these goals and even make suggestions on

additional trainings, conferences and certifications I may add to my timeline. Making a

plan and breaking it down by year, not only organizes goals but can also create an

achievable plan for how and when these goals will be achieved in a realistic format.
