Consistency is the key

By: Jerry Louise Huerbana

Success in basketball and in any other sports can’t be achieved in just one day.
We need to invest in sports in order to succeed.

Our sports program lacks consistency that is the reason why our performance is
also is also not consistent. Gilas Pilipinas won silver in Fiba Asia and participated in
Fiba World Cup last 2014. After how many years, we had returned to the world’s stage
of basketball. They named the Filipino fans as the Most Valuable fans. We entered
Asian Games with so much expectation. But to our dismay, we sank to lowest ranks.

We lack consistency. Our government, our players and even Filipino fans are not
consistent.

What we need in order to succeed in the world of sports is not only the
overwhelming support of the government and the fans. The thing needed is a consistent
support. If our athletes will receive consistent support, they will have a consistent
performance as well.

This consistency can be achieved if we are all willing to invest in Sports.

Singapore invests in sports 2 times bigger than our government’s investment. Thailand
is investing 4 times bigger than the investment of the Philippines.

The Filipino pride Lydia De Vega, the famous Pinay sprinter, is employed in
Singapore as a track and field trainer. This is because she is well compensated in
Singapore than in her own country.

If we want to put our country back to where it used to be, we need to invest big in
sports.
