Geostatistic Excel Spreadsheet - Marcel Menicheli

Introduction

This excel file was for years my collection of geostatistical formulas in the attempt to
“open the black box” of basics of Kriging and conditional simulation. Working in the
area of mining, grade control and resource evaluation I created a “visual” version of
the spreadsheet to help me explain the basics and was very good received as the
majority of the geologists and other professionals in this area being visual learning
and also very experienced with Microsoft excel.
After many requests I decide to share the file whishing that everyone can learn a bit
from it.

I’m still working in an updated version with co-kriging, indicator kriging and
conditional simulation of categorical values but will need a few weeks to finish
(maybe months as I’m working in a very busy position in a very busy company).

Feel free to use and modify. Any question, recommendation or correction contact me
on marcel.menicheli@gmail.com

Kind Regards
Marcel Menicheli

Limitations
Use this is as a learning tool. I do not recommend a different use of this file other than
educational.

You will not find here the geostatistics theory, definitions and explanations. This is a
practical application of a technics and theories that you should learn in a geostatistics
course. Use this as a graphical/visual complement of these courses.
If you try to learn by yourself I recommend buy a good geostatistics book like:
Isaaks, Edward H.; Srivastava, R. Mohan (1989). An Introduction to Applied
Geostatistics. Oxford University Press.

The colourings cells give the idea of a block model although punctual/node kriging is
the method utilised to assign a value in to the cell.

To take advantage of all functions you should activate macros execution.
