    Tutorial 1

    1. Introduce yourself to the tutor. What is your major/s? What job (e.g. working in audit,
    banks, tax etc.) would you hope to do when you graduate? What do you hope to get from
    this Unit?

    2. Your tutor will introduce himself/herself. You can also ask questions about the tutor.

    3. This course will teach you about excel spreadsheet. Form a group of 2-3 students and
    search the internet on why spreadsheet is useful in:

    a. Accounting

    b. Finance

    Do employers view graduates with spreadsheet skills more favourably? Your tutor will ask
    the response from your group and put the answer on the board/projector.

    4. This course will also teach you information technology (IT). Form a group of 2-3 students
    and use the internet to find answers to the following:

    a. explain why Professional Accountancy and Finance Courses (e.g. CPA Australia,
    MICPA-CAANZ, ICAEW, ACCA etc.) require that the undergraduate students study
    IT,

    b. why is the knowledge of IT important to accounting and finance, and

    c. how does IT affect accounting and finance

    Your tutor will ask the response from your group and put the answer on the
    board/projector.
