I developed a love of learning at an early age, and this inspired me to become a teacher. I firmly
believe that people continually grow through furthering their education, and that knowledge is
power. I have always wanted to be a teacher because through teaching students, I learn. In my
classroom, I aim to establish a positive learning environment that fosters creativity and active
learning. I challenge students to reach their full potential and to develop a strong work ethic.
During the first week of school, I teach students about what it means to have a growth mindset.
I want them to understand that they have the power to be responsible for their own learning
and success. Having a growth mindset will determine students’ behavior, outlook on life, and
attitude toward the events and circumstances around them. I want my students to persevere
and grow when faced with challenges, and to embrace the effort that is needed to overcome
obstacles.

In my classroom, I use a positive behavioral support system to encourage respectful and

appropriate behavior. I have accomplished this through using individual and whole-class
incentive systems. By establishing a positive learning environment, my students feel safe
physically, academically, and emotionally. In my classroom, students learn what it means to be
respectful, accepting of others, compassionate, and empathetic. I want my students to know
that I am there to advocate for them, to increase their love of learning, and to challenge them
to become self-directed learners.
