■ Overview
The METRAtest 36A diagnosis
and service unit is used for test-
ing an AS-Interface bus system
or individual components (AS-
Interface slaves) in accord-
ance with the extended AS-In-
terface specification 2.1. The
unit can also be used as a PC
gateway for programming or as
a master.
The PC software enables the
test performed on AS-Interface
to be be documented.

Functions
• AS-Interface test
Measurement of voltage
(measuring range 0 to 40 V)
and current consumption
(measuring range 0 to 70 mA)
of the AS-Interface bus.
• Slave test
Checks the data transfer be-
tween the AS-Interface slave
and the test unit as well as
the voltage pulse peaks dur-
ing data transfer.
• Master function
Operation as a bus master
with the capability for
– addressing slaves, pro-
gramming them and testing
their function
– reading out the AS-Interface
profile: address, ID, data,
extended ID1/2, extended
profile according to the AS-
Interface specification 2.1
(e. g. ID string, data string).
• Storage
Up to four complete plant
configurations can be saved
(profiles of all slaves, also ex-
tension in accordance with
AS-Interface specification
2.1).
• Monitor function
Operation as a passive bus
station, the bus activities of a
specific address are logged.
• PC interface
Remote control of all func-
tions via a PC interface.
Display
The display on the unit is a
backlit LCD dot matrix. The
menus, the setting possibilities
and the measured results are
presented on the display.
Operation
The unit features a user inter-
face that permits intuitive oper-
ation without the need for a
training period. The required
function or a further submenu is
selected from the taskbar pre-
sented in the display using four
function keys (softkeys).
A multifunction key with active
zones on the left and right is
used to page through the men-
us within a level. The input func-
tion is activated by simultane-
ously operating both active
areas.
Data interface
The built-in IR interface allows
communication with the unit.
Via the interface of a PC or an
RS232 adapter to the serial in-
terface, all functions can be
performed from the PC. With
the appropriate software, test
logs can be created. If extend-
ed functions are available in fu-
ture, new firmware updates can
be loaded.
Clock function
A clock function allows the cur-
rent time of day and the current
date to be saved specially for
documentation purposes.
