ACKNOWLDGEMENT

The researchers would like to take this opportunity to express their special thanks

of gratitude to the person who helped us and guided us throughout the making of this

experiment for making this investigatory successful. Firstly, to our parents who supported

us financially, emotionally without complaining. Secondly to all the team members.

To our ever loving science teacher Ms. Myla Joy Q. Orcullo the researchers were

very thankful for your full support. You have really helped us in the making of this

investigation.

To our Heavenly father God who made this experiment successful. Without the

full support of our loved ones and teachers this research would be impossible. Again

thank you for everybody!

The Researchers
ABSTRACT

The researchers conducted this study to differentiate or compare the two snake
plants which are aloe vera and sanseviera. We observed it in a secured glass with a smoke
in it. The researchers were very careful of our study because pollution had greatly
affected our environment. The researchers put two plants which are sanseviera and snake
plant in a box that has smoke and compared which plant absorbs the fastest. The
researchers base the cleanliness of the air through the aroma, it didn't smell bad and the
air is breathable

CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM AND RELATED LITERATURE

INTRODUCTION

We all know that from now’s generation we are using technoplogy in

transportation. We use cars, motorcycles. The main cause of air pollution is the fuels,

gasses, sulfur dioxide and etc.

Air pollution is a global environment risk to our health food security. It is

estimated to cause about 3.7 million premature deaths worldwide and destroys enough

crops to feed millions of people every year.

Air pollution is an environmental risk around the world with 92% of the world’s

population exposed to air quality levels that exceed WHO’s ambient air quality

guidelines. People in urban areas are more exposed to dangerous levels of air pollution

than those in rural areas. Air pollutants such as sulfate , nitrates and black carbon, found

in both indoor and outdoor settings, are extremely dangerous to people’s health. When

the size of the particulate matter in the air is 2.5 micrometers. (PM2.5) and below, it

penetrates to a person’s lungs and cardiovascular system.

As you can see our research is very important because air pollution is a huge

problem. That our study is limited only in comparing tha two snake plants which are

sanseviera and aloe vera.

Statement of the Problem

1. Does the snake plants clean the air?

2. Does the Sanseviera clean the air?

Hypotheses

1. If we put the snake plants in the container with a dirty air then it may clean the air

2. If we put sanseviera in a container with a dirty air then the air may be purified.

Review of Related literature

According to www.rollingnature.com the snake plant or Sanseviera a

member of Lily family, popularly goes by other common names. Snansevieria is classic

yet versatile houseplant with sword like foliage design, it is considered a top air purify

plant for indoor environment. Studies including those performed by NASs, have
consistently shown the plant to remove the toxins such as formaldehyde, xylene, toluene,

and nitrogen oxides.

According to the link www.mnn.com This easy to grow sun-loving

succulent helps clear formaldehyde and benzene which can be a byproduct of chemical-

based cleaner. This plant helps the indoor’s air clean and it purifies the dirty air. Aloe

vera has enzymes, minerals, lignin, salicylic acids and amino acids. Enzymes can purify a

thing.

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS

This research is only limited for the air indoor and is not useable outdoors.

It is also only for the two snake plants Sanseviera and aloe vera. This study is to compare,

differentiate, contrast the two snake plants to which is more accurate, and useable for

indoor air cleanser.

CHAPTER 2

METHODS

Research Design

Our experiment design is comparative as you can see we are comparing

which snake plant is the best air cleanser and its Independent variable is the type of snake

plant. The Dependent variable is the dirty air. The controlled variable is the kind of dirty

air, the soil and the type of container, temperature where they conducted the experiment.

Research Locale

The researchers discussed their study in school. The researchers will be

conducting their experiment in the Philippine particularly in Davao City more

specifically at Trexy’s house. The respondents are based from Davao City some are

studying at Saint Paeter’s College of Toril.

Research Respondents

We had no participants or respondents in the investigation or making of our

experiment.

Ethical Considerations

Ethical consideration is a must in making project or having an experiment .This is

one of the basic rules in making experiment the fact that we have a big responsibility for

the rules and laws in our country. We have no violations, our making was not against the

law and actually it helps our community.

The researchers believe that they are not doing anything that is against the law.

They got the information from a reliable or trusted source of internet. They also bought

the materials using their own money and did not steal it from stores. The researchers

make sure that they did not harm any person. They made sure to always abide the law and

not against the rules and regulations of the democrtacic country Philippines.
CHAPTER 3

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

Type of plant Time of disappearance of observation

air

Spider plant 2:28 seconds Slow disappearance of the

air

Sanseviera 1:39 seconds Fast disappearance of the

air

As you can see in the table the sanseviera is faster to absorb the air than the spider

plant because the sanseviera took 1:39 seconds and the spider plant took 2:28 seconds.
CHAPTER 4

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

SUMMARY

1. The researchers recommend the next researchers to continue and develop the

study.

2. The researchers would like to recommend to use a glass type container or

aquarium to really spot the plant purified the air,

3. The researchers would like to recommend to use more than 2 snake plants.

CONCLUSION

The researchers concluded that snake plant is better plant to purify air and

it is faster to cleanse than the spider plant, the researchers concluded that the

snake plant removes formallhyde and xylene and thisplant can be easily grown.

We conclude that the snake plants are very useful plant for indoors such as houses

because not only it is for interior design or display but it can also reduce the

polluted air indoors.

RECOMMENDATIONS
1. The researchers recommend the next researchers to continue and develop the

study.

2. The researchers would like to recommend to use a glass type container or

aquarium to really spot the plant purified the air,

3. The researchers would like to recommend to use more than 2 snake plants.
