Q1. The sum of the numerator and denominator of fraction is 3 less than twice the denominator. If the
numerator and denominator both are decreased by 1, the numerator becomes half the
denominator.
Q2. Amar gives Rs. 9000 to some athletes of a school as scholarship every month. Had there been 20
more athletes each would have got Rs. 160 less. Form a pair of linear equations for this and find
the no. of athletes.
Q3. Find the value of k so that the equations x + 2y = – 7, 2x + ky + 14 = 0 will represent coincident
lines.

Q28. Ankita travels 14 km to her home partly by rickshaw and partly by bus. She takes half an hour if she
travels 2 km by rickshaw, and the remaining distance by bus. On the other and, if she travels 4 km
by rickshaw and the remaining distance by bus, she takes 9 minutes longer. Find the speed of the
rickshaw and of the bus.
Q29. A person, rowing at the rate of 5 km/h in still water, takes thrice as much time in going 40 km
upstream as in going 40 km downstream. Find the speed of the stream. A motor boat can travel 30
km upstream and 28 km downstream in 7 hours. It can travel 21 km upstream and return in 5 hours.
Find the speed of the boat in still water and the speed of the stream.
Q30. A two-digit number is obtained by either multiplying the sum of the digits by 8 and then subtracting
5 or by multiplying the difference of the digits by 16 and then adding 3. Find the number.
Q31. A railway half ticket costs half the full fare, but the reservation charges are the same on a half ticket
as on a full ticket. One reserved first class ticket from the station A to B costs Rs 2530. Also, one
reserved first class ticket and one reserved first class half ticket from A to B costs Rs 3810. Find the
full first class fare from station A to B, and also the reservation charges for a ticket.
Q32. A shopkeeper sells a saree at 8% profit and a sweater at 10% discount, thereby, getting a sum Rs
1008. If she had sold the saree at 10% profit and the sweater at 8% discount, she would have got
Rs 1028. Find the cost price of the saree and the list price (price before discount) of the sweater.

should be the range of the distance of the object from the mirror? What is the nature of the image?
Draw a ray diagram to show the image formation in this case.
4. An arrow 2.5 cm high is placed at a distance of 25 cm from a diverging mirror of focal length 20 cm.
Find the position and size of the image formed.
5. an object of height 4 cm is placed at distance of 12 cm from a concave mirror having focal length 24
cm, find the position, nature and the height of the image.
6. If the image formed by mirror for all positions of the object placed in front of it is always virtual and
diminished, state the type of the mirror. Draw a ray diagram in support of your answer. Where are
such mirrors commonly used and why?
7. It is desired to obtain an erect image of an object, using concave mirror of focal length of 12
cm.(i) What should be the range of distance of an object placed in front of the mirror?(ii) Will the
image be smaller or larger than the object? Draw ray diagram to show the formation of image in
this case (iii) Where will the image of this object be, if it is placed 6 cm in front of the mirror? Draw
ray diagram for this situation to justify your answer. Show the position of pole, principal focus and
the centre of curvature in the ray diagram.
8. A student has three concave mirrors A, B and C of focal lengths 20 cm, 15 cm and 10 cm
respectively. For each concave mirror he performs the experiment of image formation for three
values of object distance of 30 cm, 10 cm and 20 cm.Giving reason answer the following:
(a) For the three object distances, identify the mirror which will form an image equal in size to that of
object. Find at least one value of object distance.
(b) Out of the three mirrors, identify the mirror which would be preferred to be used for shaving
purpose.
(c) For the mirror B, draw ray diagram for image formation for any two given values of object
distance.
9. Draw a labeled ray diagram to locate the image of an object formed by a convex lens of focal length
20cm when the object is placed 30cm away from the lens.
10. What is meant by the power of a lens? What is its SI unit? Name the type of lens whose power is
positive. The image of an object formed by a lens is real, inverted and of the same size as the
object. If the image is at a distance of 40cm from the lens, what is the nature and power of the lens?
Draw ray diagram to justify your answer.
11. A ray of light enters from water to glass. Refractive index of glass with respect to water is 1.12. Find
absolute refractive index of water if absolute refractive index of glass is 1.5.
12. At what distance the object should be placed so that the image will be formed at a distance 10 cm
from a concave lens ? Focal length of the lens is 20 cm.
13. An object of 10 cm height is placed at a distance of 10 cm from a convex mirror. The radius of
curvature of the mirror is 30 cm. Find the position, height and nature of its image.
14. An object is placed perpendicular to the principal axis of a concave lens of focal length 30 cm at a
distance of 20 cm from the lens. Find the position of the image.
15. When an object is placed at a distance of 60 cm from a concave mirror the magnification produced
is 1/2, where should the object be placed to get a magnification of 1/3.
