My role and actions in the studio

The immediately after entering the studio I placed the BNC cameras on tripods,
with one of the tripods being attached to a dolly, and then set up the visual mixer
using the kettle cable. Following this I connected the vision mixer to the cameras
using the BNC cables, and once connected tested the cameras and visual mixer,
making sure that the wires connected to and corresponded with the correct output
on the visual mixer. Then, I connected the talkboxes to the headsets, and attached
the talkboxes to the tripod of the corresponding camera, making sure that the
cameras output on the visual mixer was referencing the same camera that the
talkbox was wired to. I tested the headphones separately, and tested the call
buttons of each of the talkboxes to ensure that communication would be flawless
and uninterrupted during filming, preventing us from starting filming whilst the
director couldn't communicate with the camera operators.

Justification of the role
During the course, the most effective role I could take was as the camera
operator, allowing me to create shots with meaning and having a creative role
whilst still being a member of the team and listening to the instructions of the
director, something I know that I handle better than a directorial or commanding
role following my experience on the course. Operating the cameras is something
that I am skilled at and I have a keen eye for details allowing me to observe the
shots and remove any small errors or distractions from the frame. My use of
communication skills, which are essential for this role, allow me to work effectively
with the other camera operators and follow the instructions of the visual director
and the director of the shoot. Working as a team will aid me and allow me to
create an effective and professional interview and final product.
Meeting notes
27/05/19: Researched the client in order to find out the previous works and history. I found that he had worked on
several major television projects like ‘Line of Duty’. This allowed me to get a better understanding of the
interviewee, and shape the questions that will be asked to him, as well as try to predict his responses, allowing me
to plan for what shots to shoot during his responses to certain questions.

28: I was assigned to the role of Camera Operator. I will be a part of the team that will film the interview with Mr
Strevens. This has allowed me to use my time to communicate closely with the director, visual director and other
Camera operators, in order to understand and plan for their vision of the interview and help them to achieve it.

01/06/19: Following a meeting with the other members of the crew, including the other camera operators, the
director, visual director and the floor manager, involving the placement of cameras and actions to be taken before
and during filming in order to create the most effective interview according to the director's vision.

02/06/19: Drew up a floor plan so that everything could be prepared quickly for the interview, allowing me to
visually picture the placement of all equipment, increasing the effectiveness of the crew and speeding up setup of
the equipment.
