A.

Modern Composer X
B. The winner receives a prize of $100,000 and a home studio package in addition to an
opportunity to meet and work with current industry professionals, an invaluable
networking resource.
C. Every episode will take place in a different city around the world similar to The Amazing
Race however they do not have to get their own transportation to the cities. The whole
idea of moving each episode and therefore challenge into a different city is to make the
individual challenges specific to a musical culture prominent in that city.
D. There will be 14 contestants in the beginning of the show with between the ages of 18
and 45 with no specific gender preference. The contestants should be diverse and come
from all walks of life and stages in their professional music writing career.
E. In one episode’s challenge the contestants will have to compose music for a scene of a
movie that was shot in the city where the competition is that week. From the contestants
first viewing of the piece of film they will have to score for the contestants will have 48
hours to write and record the music in addition to exploring the city for inspiration. Each
contestant will have the ability to go explore the city and locations where the film was
shot to get the vibe for the area, neighborhood and people who live and are around
there. After 24 hours are up the contestants meet up for a check in with the host who will
then add another layer to the challenge. Whoever won the last weeks challenge will get
to assign added obstacles to their opponents compositions. The obstacles are: add a
specific melody to your composition, add a specific harmony to your composition, and
rewrite your film score for only instruments you can find performing in the streets of this
city. Since 24 hours have past it is also the time when the contestants must begin
recording their scores with live musicians each contestant will go to a space where all of
the professional musicians are gathered together and receive a list of them all and what
they instruments they play or what voice classification they are. They are then allowed to
go free in the space and find all the musicians they want to use and finish the challenge
with the extra obstacles they were assigned. They are then judged by a panel of
established composers who will vote one contestant off based on how good their film
score is. The prize for this, and all the challenges, is a free excursion somewhere in or
around the city and special privileges in the next challenge much like the assigning of
the obstacles was in this challenge. Winning a challenge however does not make you
immune or safe at the next week's challenge, like as in RuPaul’s Drag Race. The
contestants may choose when they sleep and take breaks during this time as cameras
will be following them the entire 48 hours and so they set their own work schedule over
the course of the 2 day challenges. They also don't necessarily have to sleep if they
don't want to.
F. Contestants are voted off weekly by a panel of judges with established careers in the
music industry. Judges could be conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle or Gustavo
Dudamel, film composers such as John WIlliams, Danny Elfman or Hans Zimmer, music
producers and mixers and other similar people in the industry. When the panel decides
who will be leaving the show they say, “This weeks challenge was not your magnum
opus, please pack your gear and go.”
G. The host will be Yannick Nézet-Séguin of the Orchestre Métropolitain (Canada), the
Metropolitan Opera (NYC), and the Philadelphia Orchestra. He will host the because of
his eccentric yet humble and wise demeanor and avid social media presence. He is also
well established in the professional music community.
H. The show will not air on regular cable tv but can be streamed on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon
Prime Video and YouTube TV. This is because the show will most likely appeal to only a
niche audience and no networks could probably afford to air it with such a limited
audience.
I. Production will take about 42 days or six weeks given that each challenge lasts 2 days
and you get one day for travel before and after the challenges.
