you, they" is "were" , in negative it is add "not" that was "was not" and "were not", in a
question the order of words is altered, that is, an example is "Was I ..." and "Were we ...",
to answer a question is "Yes, I was" "No, I wasn’t" or "Yes, we were" "No, we weren’t"
