》Oil Leak Test Procedure

1. SCOPE
This procedure defines the requirements to be allowed for Oil Leak Test of parts the Shell to
Bottom weld, after finish weld from inside the shell.
This procedure to be performed by QA/QC Inspector PT. Hubei Second Electric Power
Construction Engineering Company to test of weld of Shell to Bottom (corner weld). And
Square Butt Weld Hopper ESP, Square Butt Weld Air Duct

2. REFERENCE
The following document shall be referred to:
- API 650 : Welded Steel Tanks for Oil Storage.
- Drawing
- DL/GB : Standard Inspection

3. RESPONSIBILITY
The personnel of QC Inspector shall execute the Oil Test Examination according to this
procedure and the applicable codes.

4. ACCEPTANCE STANDARD
All leaks located by Oil Leak Test Examination are unacceptable.

5. PROCEDURE
Remove all standing water, weld slag, mud, dirt, and other debris at areas welding to be tested
which may prevent bubble formation.
Provide adequate lighting for this examination. For example, daylight or illumination from a
standard 3 volt (2D Cells) flashlight is sufficient.
Applying a light Diesel oil or Kerosene as a leak detector solution to the welds to be tested
between
The shell and the Bottom letting stand for at least one hundred twenty (120) Minutes, The
Square butt weld of Hopper and Air Duct letting stand for at least thirty (30) Minutes
Observe the surface during the application of Oil as Leak detector to detect the nature of
indications which bleed excessively.
Final Examining the weld shall be made 120 Minutes after application of the light diesel oil or
kerosene for Corner Joint (Bottom to Shell) and 30 Minutes for Square Butt Joint of Hopper and
Air Duct.
During the test make sure there is a fire watcher and prepare the fire extinguisher in case have
a fire. Make sure the area of the test no welding and/or grinding activity to prevent catch of fire.

6. REPAIR
When there is some leakage on the weld, the leakages on the welds shall be marking and
repaired by welding as per approved main WPS.
After completed repaired by welding the area weld have been repaired shall be cleaned before
Examined by the same test method, when the defect was detected.
If leakage on weld found by Oil Leak Test the treatment for repairing as follows:

6.1 Mark the leak area using permanent marker.


6.2 Clean the area from oil, dirt, ect. using wrag. Blow by air to make sure the leak area
is clean and dry.
6.3 Remove the leak area using grinder.
6.4 Clean the removed area by grinder or power brush,
6.5 Rewelded using the same electrode as originally used according to the approved
main WPS and by qualified DISNAKERTRANS certified welder.
Make sure before re-welded the defect area to be clearly

6.6 After visual inspection retest the repair area following the procedure as shown on
paragraph 5
7. RE-EXAMINATION OF REPAIR AREAS:
Repaired areas shall be re-examined by the Oil Leak Test method examination that were
originally required for the effected area.

8. POST CLEANING:
After examination, clean the surface on which the oil was applied using hand brush, blow by air
and or clean rag.

9. REPORT:
After completion of Oil Leak test PT.HEPSEC QC Inspector will prepared the Report of Oil Leak
Test for customer approval.
