There are two different types of Tender Assist Drilling rigs (TADs), a tender rig and a semi-tender,
both units carry the same equipment but the semi-tender is capable of operating in deeper waters
and in much harsher environments. Typically, the TAD is stationed next to the platform and its
drilling package is lifted onto the platform.
One of the main benefits of a TAD drilling rig is its ability to self-raise, remove its own drilling
package and then rig-up on the same package on an.other platform which results in efficiency and
sustainability when it comes to drilling development wells.

DES footprints and overhangs are approximately one- third that of a platform rig.
With the DES offloaded and plenty of deck space available, a complete well can be loaded
out prior to drilling.
In the event of an emergency on the platform, the tender can act as a safe haven and as a
rescue and command center.

Semi tender and tender – rectangular and square

Drill ship-can hold more equipment. Typically employed in deep and ultra-deep waters,
drillships work in water depths ranging from 2,000 to more than 10,000 feet (610 to 3,048
meters). Anchor with turret system. Flexible riser. Less expensive mobility. Marine risers with
flex joint at the bottom and slip joint at the top.
Semi-submersible is the most stable rig. Can withstand harsh environment, rolling and pitching
of waves.
