1. INTRODUCTION: The method statement describes methodology and sequences for repair of Tie Rod/
Dowell bar and tie rod hole in the Vertical Wall of cut and cover Tunnel Box sections for Design and
construction of Airport Metro Express Line, Contract No.-C4.
2. PURPOSE: This method statement describes the process to be followed for the repair of Tie Rod/
Dowell bar and tie rod hole in the Vertical Wall of Tunnel Box. The objective is to detail a method
statement encompassing all the items of the above work as well as to detail the safety procedure to be
followed in order to prevent injuries to personnel during execution.
3. RESPONSIBILITY:
1). The Supervisor shall be responsible for managing Tools, Equipment, and Labour for the above
work.
2). The Section Engineer shall be responsible for all the activities of the work.
3). The QA/QC engineer shall be responsible for ensuring the quality of work as per the methodology.
4). The Designers, Engineer & Supervisors shall be responsible to ensure the safety of workers during
the progress of work.
5). The Safety Manager & Safety Officer shall be responsible for implementation of safety norms.
6). The Project In-Charge shall be responsible for the overall completion of work.

7. BRIEF METHOD OF CONSTRUCTION

A) METHODOLOGY # 1

Methodology for the Repair & water tightness of the Dowell Bar/Tie Rod without Sleeves :

1. Cleaning the surface by mechanical or manual means as required on site to remove all loose
laitance, dust, and graffiti if it is there on the site.

2. Cutting out the geometrical profile with cutter/chaser/core up to the required depth i.e. min of
30mm from both the faces of concrete of 50 to 60mm dia, to reach to the sound concrete, and
chiseling / chipping of the concrete in between the profile as per requirement.

3. Tie Rod cutting will be done by diamond cutters. In

4. Wetting out the surface to remove the loose dust sticking to the chased and chiseled area.

5. Application of CICO BOND EPO all around the circumference of the bar of whatever dia
chiseled concrete surface.

6. Applying high strength repair mortar CICO GROUT V1 in the chiseled/core area.. The
repair mortar shall have compressive strength:

400 kg/cm2 in 24 hours


560 kg/cm2 in 3 days
670 kg/cm2 in 7 days
800 kg/cm2 in 28 days

7. Curing the repaired surface by water by sprinkling method minimum for three days to get proper
strength of high strength repair mortar.

8. Application of CICO BOND EPO on outer faces of finished repair surface.

B) METHODOLOGY # 2

Methodology for the Repair & water tightness of the Tie Rod Hole with Sleeves:

1. Cleaning the surface by mechanical or manual means as required on site to remove all loose
laitance, dust, and graffiti if it is there on the site.

2. Cutting out the geometrical profile with cutter/chaser/core up to the required depth i.e. min of
30mm from both the faces of concrete of 50 to 60mm dia, to reach to the sound concrete, and
chiseling / chipping of the concrete in between the profile as per requirement.

3. Wetting out the surface to remove the loose dust sticking to the chased and chiseled area.

4. Applying high strength repair mortar CICO GROUT V1 in the outer chiseled/core area of wall.

5. Entire length of PVC sleeves will be filled with CICO GROUT VI with hand operated grouting
pump.

6. Curing the repaired surface by approved curing compound or by water by sprinkling method
minimum for 03 (three) days which one is possible according to the site condition, to get proper
strength of high strength repair mortar.

8. SAFETY PRECAUTION
Personal protective equipment (PPE)
All persons engaged in the Repair work and present at the site area shall be provided with
appropriate personal protective equipment at all the times:
 Safety Helmet
 Safety footwear
 Safety gloves
 Eye / Ear protector when grouting, grinding
 Mask
 Harness belt.

Safety precautions during Repair Work:

 Ensure that the work zone is marked as non-smoking area during the application
 Use asbestos gloves and safety goggles during torching process.
 Wear adequate safety shoes during torching process
 Keep fire extinguisher near the work zone.
 Avoid direct flame to body
Working Plateform :
Add
 Proper working plateform with mid rail and guard rail.

 Working plateform should be rigidly fixed.

 Suitable ladder should be provided as access to the working plateform.
 Suitable lighting arrangement.
Lighting

Suitable lights for application work during night shift should be provided in and around the work
area.
Safety inspection

Safety Officer / Supervisor will carry out safety inspection of working / storage area on a regular
basis. They will ensure that precautions have been taken as set out in the risk and hazard assessment.
