A Semi Detailed Lesson Plan in MATH 9

Angles of Elevation and Depression

I. OBJECTIVES

After this lesson, the students will be able to:

1. Illustrate angles of elevation and angles of depression
2. Distinguish between angle of elevation and angle of depression
3. Solve problems involving angles of elevation and depression

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Angles of Elevation and Depression

References: Mathematics Learner’s Material 9
Materials: Chalk & Board, Power Point Presentation,
Values to be integrated: To develop the critical thinking, collaboration, discovery,
self-confidence, determination and patience of the students.

III. PROCEDURE

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Greetings
2. Prayer
3. Classroom Management
4. Review

B. Presentation of the New Lesson

A. Motivation

Energizer : Hep Hep, Hooray!!!

(Group Activity)
“Look Up look Down”

 How did you find the activity?

 When you look up to tall objects is there an angle formed? What about when you
look down?
 Describe the illustration or picture you have created from the activity.
 Do you think that you can directly measure the height, the distance of the objects
you have listed in the activity?
B. Discussion

 

  Link the
concept of angle of
elevation and
depression in real life
context.
 Illustrate the concept
of angle of elevation
and angle of
depression.

 Give more examples

 Ask students to try to solve the problem presented in the power point
presentation. Have them share their answers with the class while explaining
how they arrived at the answer.
 

The study of trigonometric ratios originated from geometric problems involving

triangles. To recall, solving a triangle means finding the lengths of the sides and
measures of the angles of the triangle. Trigonometric ratios may be used to solve
problems involving angles of elevation and depression.
C. Generalization
 What is angle of elevation and depression?
 How would you know if it’s elevation or depression?
 What is a line of sight?
D. Valuing
How would you apply the concept of angle of elevation and depression in real-
world and mathematical problems?

IV. EVALUATION

Group Activity: The students will be grouped into 5.

CRITERIA:
Team Work 20 pts.
Concept and Application 20 pts.
Process (Solution) 30 pts.
Presentation and Communication 30 pts.
TOTAL 100 Pts.

V. ASSIGNMENT

Reflection
85% of the learners were able to understand the lesson.

Integration to Different Subject Areas

 History
The students knew the early history of Trigonometry.
 Engineering Subjects
The Angle of elevation and depression is also used in construction to make sure buildings
are properly built
 P.E.

Knowing how far away the object is, enable us to find the height of an object used.
 English
Solve worded problems and vocabulary words

Teaching Strategies

- Collaborative Learning
- Discovery Learning
- Observe, modify and re-evaluate (as students work on problems)
