Purpose
This Work Instruction will provide specific welding guidelines for P1 Gr1 and P1 Gr2 materials with the
GTAW welding process, with and without PWHT.
Scope
This Work Instruction applies to all Flowserve sites that conduct welding according to ASME IX
requirements. The material to which this WPS may be applied is identified in Section QW-403, and the
supporting PQR(s) will be listed in References and Welding Procedure Specification section.

PWHT (QW-407)
Temperature Range up to 2” thickness 1,125°F ±25°F (607℃ ±8℃) 1hr/in (25mm), 15 min minimum.
Temperature Range over 2” to 5” thickness 1,125°F ±25℉ (607℃ ±8℃) 2 hr plus 15 min for each additional
inch (25mm) over 2 inches (50mm)
Temperature Range over 5” thickness 1,125°F ±25°F (607℃ ±8℃) 2 hr plus 15 min for each additional inch
(25mm) over 2 inches (50mm)
Other Thickness = weld joint
For thicknesses below 1.25 inches (32mm), PWHT is optional. For thicknesses 1.25 to 1.5 inches (32 to 38mm),
PWHT is not needed if joint is preheated at a minimum of 200°F (93℃). For thicknesses greater than 1.5 inches
(38mm) PWHT is mandatory.
