UNIT 1

1. Write the classification of AC Supply System.

2. Withneatsketchexplainthesinglebusbarsystemwithsectionalisation. [6]

3. A single phase a.c. distributor AB of length 300 mt. has total impedance of Z AB =
(0.2+j0.l) ohm per km. With sending end at A , the distributor is loaded as under:
[8]

i. at C, 200 mt. from A, l00A, at p.f 0.707 lag

ii. at B, 300 mt. from A , 200A, at p.f 0.8 lag Load p.f are referred to far end B.
Calculate the total voltage drop in the distribution

4. List out any three symbols of equipment used in substations with their specifications.

5. A Single phase ac distributor AB 500 mt. long is fed from point A and is loaded as:
[6]

i) l00A at 0.707 lag power factor at C at distance of 300 mt. from

Point A.
i) 200A at 0.8 lag power factor at 500 mt. from Point A.
The power factors at both load points are referred to voltage at point 'C'.
The Total Impedance of Distributor per km is (0.2 + j0.l) ohm.
Calculate total voltage drop in distributor and its Magnitude.

8. A single phase distributor AB has R = 0.2 and X = 0.3 , at far end B. the voltage
VB is 240V and current 80A at pf 0.8 lagg. At mid-point. current is l00A at 0.6 pf
lagging w.r.t. to voltage VA at A. Find Supply voltage and Phase angle between VA and
VB? [6]

transmission line based on volume of conductor? [3]

11. State and explain the kelvin's Law?

12. Explain Touch Potential and Step Potential.

13. A single phase one km long distributor having sending end A and far end B has
total(to and return) conductor resistance and reactance conductor of 0.2 ohm and 0.3
ohm respectively. At the far end, the voltage VB is 200 V and the current is l00A at
p.f.0.6 lagging with reference to the voltage VB. At the mid-point M of the distributor,
a current of l00 A is tapped at a p.f. of 0.6 lagging with reference to the voltage VM at
mid-point. Calculate Voltage at Mid-point (VM). [8]
