Employment am) SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS _ J \ ASHEVILLE CITY, BUNCOMBE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA ‘The Asheville City Board of Education is seek a’Superintendent to lead the school system as it continues its pursuit of excellence, Candidates must meet the legal requirements to be licensed as a superintendent in North Carolina or be qualified to serve under the State Board of Education's alternative guidelines. Central office and building-level experience are preferred, A doctorate degree or progress toward a doctorate degree is preferred but not required. By law the Superintendent must reside in Buncombe County and residence in the Asheville City School district is strongly encouraged. Applications are due by September 16, 2019. Salary is negotiable and will be commensurate with experience and a history of demonstrated leadership, Candidates must demonstrate ability and success in: (1) visionary educational leadership; (2) structional, curriculum and administrative leadership; (3) decision-making, delegation, and follow-through; (4) goal- setting and monitoring achievement; (5) fostering community and intergovernmental partnerships; (6) administration and organization of short-term and long-term strategic planning, budgeting, and personnel and facility management; (7) strong communication skills and effective team-building; (8) procuring additional funding; (9) visibility and involvement in community activities; (10) leadership in maintaining safe and orderly school environments, and (11) planning and funding, of school facilities ‘The Asheville City Schools are governed by a five-member non-partisan Board of Education appointed by the Asheville City Council. ‘The school system operates ten schools that serve approximately 4,400 students from pre-kindergarten through grade twelve. The system includes one “five-star” preschool, five elementary magnet schools, two middle schools (Asheville Middle School and Montford North Star Academy), and two high schools, (Asheville High School and the School of Inquiry and Life Sciences).
