ABSTRACT

Background: Low Birth Weight Infants are babies born with weight <2500
grams, one of the causes of LBW is premature rupture of membranes, infected by
pathogenic bacteria entering through the mother's vagina. Objective: This
research is to know the relationship of premature rupture of membranes with low
birth weight babies in RSUD Dr. RM Pratomo Bagansiapiapi Year 2016.
Method: This research is an analytic descriptive research with retrospective
research method, and cross sectional research design. The subjects of research are
137 mothers who experience premature rupture of membranes in RSUD Dr. RM
Pratomo Bagansiapiapi Year 2016 taken by Total Sampling. The independent
variable is premature rupture of membranes. The dependent variable is a low birth
weight baby. Methods Data collection used secondary data and this study used
univariate and bivariate analyzes using Chi-Square test. Results: Univariate
results of 137 mothers who experienced premature rupture of membranes, 34
women had LBW. Bivariat result obtained that there is relation between
premature rupture membrane with low birth weight babies with p value = 0.000
<α = 0,05 with value POR 5.559 (2.288-13.507) which means H0 rejected and Ha
accepted. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between early amniotic
fluid burst of low birth weight infant at RSUD Dr. RM Pratomo Bagansiapiapi
Year 2016. Suggestion: It is advisable for pregnant women always keep their
pregnancy health by maintaining the pervaginal hygiene so that no premature
rupture of membranes that will cause abnormal growth in infants or babies can
experience low birth weight.
