Writing in a Different Language

Learning how to write an essay is important when you want to complete your education. Every college

student needs to know how to write an essay not only to complete their assignments while they are studying, but

also when they want to write reports, letters, memos and emails in future. For example, when the college

students graduate from a business school, they will work in a company or a bank and will have to communicate

with other companies or banks. So, their job will constitute writing an email or a business letter. My mother

language is Arabic and I cannot write business letters in it. But it is important and enjoyable to write essays in

English. There are some students who are facing difficulties in writing. Some students have problems like how

to be a good writer, how to find ideas and how to organize those ideas.

Every writer wants to improve his or her own writing. If you want to be a good writer, you have to read

more and more. You have to go to the library and read general books. By reading general books, you will be

able to observe how the writers have used words and how they have organized different ideas in these books.

Also, you can use the E-books. The E-books have many advantages. For example, you can read them anywhere

and they are easily accessible. It can save your time and money as well.

Different writers face different problems. Some writers have difficulty in finding ideas about the topic

they want to write on and others feel difficulty in coordinating various ideas. However, you can easily

overcome these problems. If you want to gather information about the subject you are going to write about, you

should read journals and relevant books. You may ask people who belong to the same field and have knowledge

and experience in that subject. For example, if you want to write about how to lose weight, you have to read
relevant articles and journals. Further, you may request a trainer for better information. Also, if you have access

to internet, you can search for the topic of your interest. Internet will provide you with a variety of information.

Similarly, organizing information in a meaningful manner is not a difficult task. In order to overcome this

problem, you have to follow certain writing rules. First, list the information that you have collected, on a piece

of paper, arrange the information in order of importance (ascending or descending order), the write a

preliminary draft of the topic, read it again and look for grammatical mistakes and finally design the final draft

of your essay. There are four different styles of writing in English which are expository writing, persuasive

writing, descriptive writing and narrative writing. Choosing the correct style is important. Essay is usually

written in persuasive style.
