Modelling slab step in SCIA Engineer

1. Small step
• Step modelled as rib in the centre to simulate higher stiffness of the nodes along the
step – Model 1
• Two slabs, one of them with 150mm eccentricity - Model 2
• One slab with subregion on the right with 150mm eccentricity - Model 3
• One slab with subregion on the left with 150mm eccentricity - Model 4
• No step – Model 5

Because of the eccentricity membrane (axial) forces are present. Eccentricity multiply by axial force =
bending moment (could be + or -) therefore the Bending moment in the slab could be underestimate
(Model 2 and 3) or overestimate (Model 4)

e=150mm, N=42kN, M=42*0.150=3.6kNm therefore M=27-3.6=22kNm

2. Big step

Two separate slabs on different levels with wall element between them. To get the total forces on
the beam (step) use integration strip
