Lab Safety Symbols

Safety Goggles: Wear safety goggles to protect your eyes in any activity involving chemicals, flames
or heating, or glassware.
If a chemical gets in your eye, flush in water for about 10 minutes and inform the
instructor.

Lab Apron: Wear a laboratory apron to protect your skin and clothing from damage.

Plastic Gloves: Wear disposable plastic gloves when working with harmful chemicals.
Keep your hand away from your face and dispose of your gloves when used.

Toxic Fumes: Work in a ventilated area when harmful vapors may be involved.
Avoid inhaling vapors directly.

Hot Surface: Do not touch hot objects with your bare hands.
Use Clamp to pick up hot glassware.
Use heat resistant gloves to touch hot objects.

Electrical Hazard: To avoid electric shock, never use electrical equipment near water.

Unplug the equipment not in used.


Equipment should always be turned off when work is being done on it.

Food & Drink Prohibited: Food or beverage containers may not be stored in the laboratory.
Refrigerators used for storage of research materials must not be used for
storage of food or beverages
