Instructions:
1. Observe proper formatting of the report.
2. Discuss all relevant points/concepts/logical statements/decisions in the analytical procedure.
3. Relevant tabulations and diagrams must be presented.
4. Submit the report on or before the set deadline stated below.

Due Date: December 12, 2017 (Tuesday)

A control RC section has a width of 300 mm and a height of 450 mm. It is reinforced with 2-25 mmØ
top bars and 4-25 mmØ bottom bars. The specified concrete strength is 30 MPa (C30) and the
specified steel yield stress is 420 MPa (Grade 60). The code-specified minimum cover concrete of 40
mm is observed. Assume a transverse reinforcement diameter of 10 mm. Neglect the effect of
confinement.

Calculate the following values at crack initiation, flexural yielding, and ultimate stage for the 8 cases
enumerated below:
a. Depth of compression block
b. Curvature
c. Positive nominal flexural capacity

Case 0: Control section.

Case 1: Tensile reinforcement is reduced to 2-25 mm Ø.
Case 2: Compression reinforcement is removed.
Case 3: Grade of steel is changed to Grade 40.
Case 4: Specified concrete strength is increased to 42 MPa.
Case 5: Beam width is increased to 400 mm.
Case 6: Beam depth is increased to 600 mm.
Case 7: Cover concrete is increased to 75 mm.

Report Format: Scientific Journal Format

Title: Report title must be unique. (i.e., Effect of Longitudinal Reinforcement on the Ductility of
Reinforced Concrete Flexural Members)
