B1000×3000Apron Feeder
1. Applications
This apron feeder could be used as the conveying equipment of various
lump and loose materials from warehouse to crusher, belt conveyor and
other machineries horizontally or at a slant. It has been widely used for
the industries of mining, metallurgy and cement. It is the very important
machine for the treatment of the raw material and the continuous
production line. Especially, it is good for conveying the big lump and
sharp shaped material.
B1000 Apron Feeder is designed as per heavy machinery, when it is
used in cement production, the lump size of limestone or gypsum to be
conveyed must be less than 600mm and bulk density must be less than
2.4×104N/m3.

3. Working principle and structures
3.1 Working principle
The conveying part consists of the directly-connected driving chains and
the conveying trough.
The apron feeder is driven by driving device (motor, gear reducer and
chain gear wheel) on the head device. By the power from the driving
device, the driving chain shall be driven; the conveying trough loaded
with material shall be driven forward. The chains, critical parts of the
machine, not only transfer the driving power, but also make the
conveying parts move on the rail. They bear total weight of the
conveyed material and the conveying parts. The conveying frame that

has enough strength and rigidity shall support total weight coming from
the material and the equipment. The complete load shall be transferred
to the foundation from this conveying frame.
The material shall be fed into the conveying trough from the feeding
hood above the rear part and conveyed forward to the head hood and
discharged from the outlet trough.
The head hood of this machine connects directly with the feed opening
of the crusher, and the discharged materials from the apron feeder hood
chute shall be fed into the crusher for keeping even and stable feeding
for the crusher.
3.2 Main characteristics
a. This apron feeder with big inclination and longer machine length can
meet process arrangement within large ranges.
b. For the chains used in the conveying parts, the applicable pitches can
ensure the stable running. For the main parts of the chains, the
material-selection and heat treatment is strengthened to increase the
fabrication quality and service life.
c. The newly designed frame, with simple structure, good strength and
rigidity, is easy to be manufactured and installed.
d. The head hood directly connects with the crusher, which simply the
process arrangement.
3.3 Structure
This apron feeder consists of driving device, head device, frame,
conveying part and rear tightening device etc..
a. Driving device
For the driving, the magnetic speed-adjustable motor and planetary gear
reducer are used. The driving device has two mounting types, i.e.,
left-mounting and right-mounting, which will be determined as per the
different process arrangement. This apron feeder can work at adjustable
speed. Usually the speed of 0.06~0.10m/s is suitable.
b. Head device
For this apron feeder with big inclination and the longer machine length,
the safety ratchet lock set in the head device can prevent the conveying

part from returning.
c. Conveying part
The conveying part is the core part of this apron feeder. The novel
techniques are used in the design and fabrication.
The main components of the chain are low alloy structure steel after
special heat treatment, which effectively increases the manufacturing
quality and the service life.
The roller is with roll bearing structure which effectively reduces the
conveying resistance and power consumption.
The conveying groove with designed structure of reasonable bottom gap
and side gap effectively avoids the leakage and spillage of the conveyed
material.
d. Frame
The novel structure frame with features of simple structure, good
strength and rigidity can simplify civil engineering and is convenient for
fabrication, mounting and dismounting, transportation and installation.
This machine can also be easily changed into the apron feeder with
spillage conveyor to meet the requirements of process arrangement.
e. Rear tightening device
The rear screw-tightening device is with features of big tightening travel
and compact structure. The rear part set directly in the frame is easy to
be mounted or dismounted.

4. Installation and trail run


The proper installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance are
very important for keeping the machine running well and a long service
life.
4.1 Preparation and inspection before installation
a. Must have the quality report and material analysis report for critical
parts like chains. The reports must be in accordance with the drawing.
b. To check the assembly of chains according to the requirements.
c. To check the state of the rusting and damage of the assembly parts sent
to the site. If any, the installation must be done after repairing, cleaning
and lubricating.

d. To check, inspect and measure the position and installation dimension.
If any problem, remove it, then can go on the installation.

4.2 Installation procedures and adjustment


a. Frame
The section-transported frames must be installed after welding. The
welds must be NDE checked. The positioning installation can start only
after the welds don’t affect the strength.
The upper and lower housing hoods can only be positioned and fixed
after the complete installation.
b. Rear tightening device
In most cases, you’d better install the rear tightening device first. Adjust
the screw spring tightening to make it at the required position.
c. Rail
The rails must mark the signal of feeding side or returning side of the
apron feeder. Pay more attention to it! If the rails are transported at
several sections, the site welding is required before installation. The
welds must be NDE checked. The positioning installation can start only
after the welds don’t affect the strength.

f. Conveying part
The installation of conveying part can start only after the adjustment of
driving device and the second pouring and primal coagulation.
During installation of conveying channels, pay more attention to the
running direction. Don’t install them at the opposite direction. To install
them based on the above procedure. The rear must have enough space for
the installation of conveying part.

4.3 Installation requirement.


4.3.1 Frame
a. The straightness of bottom frame girder must be 2/1000,and the allowed
total longitudinal deviation must be ≤±6mm.
b. The difference of bottom frame diagonals must be 1/1000,and the

allowed total longitudinal deviation must be ≤±6mm.
c. The superposition deviation between centerlines of frame and main
body must be±2mm.
4.3.2 Rail
a. The straightness deviation of rail must be 1/1000,and total length can’t
exceed 6mm.
b. The deviation between main body centerline and rail is 1mm.
c. The rail distance deviation is 2mm.
d. The relative elevation deviation between two parallel rails at the same
cross section is 1mm.
e. The joints of two parallel rails can’t be at the same position and this
joint position can’t be at times of pitch size 315mm. The deviation of
rail joint is ±1mm and the height deviation is ≤3mm(The deviation
will be lower along with the conveying direction.)
f. The parallelism deviation between levels of rail and bearing support is
1.5mm,the gap-washer can be for adjustment.
4.3.3 Head device
a. The two centerlines between the chain wheel and the support frame must
be perpendicular. The perpendicular deviation between the chain wheel
shaft centerline and the main body longitudinal centerline is 1mm.
b. The horizontal deviation of the centerline of the chain wheel shaft is
0.5mm.
c. The axial run-out value of the chain wheel can’t be more than 1mm.
4.3.4 Conveying part
a. The installation of conveying part must start from the returned rail side in
the tail after mounting and adjustment of driving device and the second
pouring and primary coagulation.
b. The chain assembly shall be done with 10 pitches as one section.
Different section shall be connected at site in accordance with the
technical requirement of NCW22.4.1.
c. To start installing the conveying trough only after final assembly of
chains and trial running which reach equal loading on each chain. The
correct side-gap of 2mm and bottom-gap of 3mm must be ensured for
the installation of the conveying trough.

4.3.5 Rear tightening device
a. The perpendicular deviation between tail wheel shaft centerline and the
main body longitudinal centerline is 1mm.
b. The horizontal deviation of the tail wheel shaft centerline is 1mm.
c. The 500mm tightening travel is the limited size. In case total chain
length has additional one pitch(P=315mm), one pitch chain must be
dismounted for tightening adjustment.
4.4 Trial run
4.4.1 Inspection before start-up.
a. The lubricant or grease in bearings, driving parts and gear reducer must
be enough.
b. The messing status between head or tail wheel gear and chain must be
correct.
c. Adjusting the tightening device to make it in the proper tightening status.
d. Entire conveying rollers must be running freely. Once the phenomenon
of slide or clip on the rail happens, the problem must be removed
immediately.
4.4.2 Unloaded trial run
To start apron feeder with low speed and check the phenomenon of
interrupting or bumping. Once the starting is ok and no unexpected
problem, the apron feeder shall run with normal speed for 2-4 hours. In
case the trail run is interrupted by any fault or adjustment, the trail run
time must be recounted. The following inspection and trail run record
must be done during the trial run.
a. The machine runs stably without exceptional impact and vibration.
b. The meshing between chain wheel and chain without phenomenon of
offset running.
c. The gap between each conveying trough is identical without
phenomenon of interrupting and stuck each other.
d. Entire roller can rotate freely without abnormal sound.
e. Entire bolt connections are reliable. Especially, for the bolts to connect
the chain and conveying trough plate. Any phenomenon of looseness is
not permitted.
f. The adjusting screw of tightening device can rotate freely.

g. Each lubrication point must be well and no leakage.
h. The temperature of the bearing must be less than 65 ℃ . The
temperature rise of the gear reducer must be less than 45℃.
i. The average noise value at 5m away from the apron feeder must be less
than 80dB.(8 points for average)
j. To record the values of voltage, current and power.
4.4.3 Loaded trial run
After the unloaded trial run, the material could be fed into the apron
feeder gradually. It could be put into production for normal running after
2 days loaded trial run. During the loaded trial run, except for the
inspection items same to the unloaded trial run, the following inspection
and record must be done.
a. The appropriate speed of the apron feeder shall be 0.06~0.08m/s. The
empty material storage will not be allowed. While the fed material is
less, the intermission feeding operation shall be permitted. The feeding
must be uniform. To prevent the deformation and deflection of the
conveying plate from the heavy impact of big lump of material will not
be permitted.
b. The phenomenon of leakage or spillage of the material shall not be
permitted.
c. The record of the voltage, current and power must be done in accordance
with the stipulated time.

5. Lubrication requirements
The lubricated items and lubrication requirements are listed in the table
as following.

To add or change the lubricant as per the requirements of
Gear reducer

6. Operation and maintenance


a. Check the equipment running condition regularly, and remove it if any
problem.
b. The lump size and the average height of materials must be as per the
requirements.
c. The appropriate speed of the apron feeder shall be 0.06~0.10m/s. To
avoid running at higher speed or lower speed. The empty material
storage will not be allowed. While the fed material is less, the apron
feeder can be stopped.
d. To remove the materials if they are piled or blocked in the discharge
housing.
e. Add lubrication or grease to all lubricating points regularly as per
regulations.
f. Replace the wearing part in time, and prevent abnormal meshing
running between chain and chain wheel.
g. Usually, it’s a must to check the running and wearing condition of
chains each shift. It’s a must to solve the problem and replace the
damaged part. It’s a must to mid-repair the apron feeder half a year.
During the big-repair, all parts must be dismounted and cleaned, all
bearings and bearing supports must be cleaned, and all chains must be
replaced. For maintenance of motor and reducer, you can do as per the
technical requirements of each product.
