1.
SUBJECT
This study consisted in the calculation by BBRI (Belgian Building Research Institute) of the
light and solar properties and of the thermal transmittance (U-value) of 6 different glazings and
in the comparison of the calculated properties with these obtained by AGC.
The following steps have been followed :
BBRI and AGC established 6 different glazings to be calculated. The 6 cases have been
imagined in order to assess the validity of the different calculation algorithms which are
used in the AGC home-made software.
AGC sent all necessary data (spectral data of the layers of the glazings, exact
composition of the glazings, thickness, etc.) to BBRI.
BBRI calculated the light and solar properties and the thermal transmittance (U-value)
of these 6 glazings.
AGC sent their calculation results to BBRI.
BBRI compared the results obtained by BBRI with these obtained by AGC.
2. STANDARDS
EN 410 (1998) : Glass in building — Determination of luminous and solar characteristics
of glazing
EN 673 (1997) + AI (2000) + A2 (2002): Glas:
transmittance (U value) - calculation method
in building — Determination of thermal
3. SOFTWARE
BBRI used the following tools :
= WIS version 3.0.1, Windows Information System, 2003 (www.windat.org)
= Optics, Version 5.1
- BBRI Home-made tool
AGC performed the calculations with a home-made program written in FORTRANBBR!

4. DESCRIPTION OF THE GLAZINGS
The 6 considered glazings are :
Coating “Energy N” (25520) on green float glass (7150)
Coating “Stopray neutral 50/40” (997) on blue float glass (8502)
Laminate 1010.8 : glass (30347) / PVB (30351) / glass (30347)
Laminate 55.4 : top N (5788) glass (5787) / PVB (30351) / blue float glass (8502)
(Top N placed in position 1)
5. Double glazing 4/16/4 : glass (44), argon 90%, top N (5788) on glass (5787) (the
coating top N is placed in position 3 in the double glazing)
6. Double glazing 6/12/44.4 : glass (44), argon 100%, glass (44) / PVB (30351) / glass
(44)

‘The number given into brackets is the reference of the glass / coating / PVB (see §5).
5. PROPERTIES OF THE LAYERS
The spectral data in transmittance and reflectance of the following layers have been sent by
AGC to BBRI:
Identification [Thickness | Description
Glass (mm)
44 3.86 Clear float glass
3787 3.89 Clear float glass — substrate for the coating “Top N”
24 6.01 Clear float glass — substrate for the coating “Stopray Neutral”
