You are going to see images of five cities and their landmarks. Write a
paragraph describing each city and country it belongs and the landmark shown.
Use the vocabulary from the box for the descriptions. The first one is done for
you as an example. / A continuación verá imágenes de cinco ciudades y sus
lugares representativos. Escriba un párrafo describiendo cada ciudad, el país al
que pertenece y el lugar mostrado. Use el vocabulario dentro del recuadro para

New York is a big city in the


United States (North
America). It takes thousand of
visitors every year. The city
has a population of around 8
million people. There is a lot
to see and do in New York.
You can visit the Central Park,
the Metropolian museum and
Time’s Square. In the picture
you can see the Statue of
Liberty, a monumet built
between 1875 and 1986. It is
93 meters tall. The statue is
New York (USA) – The Statue of Liberty
located on Liberty Island in
the Hudson River.
The Plaza de San Pedro is one
of the most beautiful and largest
squares in the world. It is located
in the Vatican, at the foot of the
Basilica of San Pedro.

The dimensions of the square


are spectacular: 320 meters long
and 240 meters wide. In the
most important liturgies and
events, the Plaza de San Pedro
has reached more than 300,000
people.

Rome (Italy) – Saint Peter’s Square The construction of the square


was carried out between 1656
and 1667 by Bernini, with the
support of Pope Alejandro VII.

In the center of the square stand


the obelisk and the two
fountains, one by Bernini (1675)
and the other by Maderno
(1614). The obelisk, 25 meters
high, was taken to Rome from
Egypt in 1586.

The Sydney Opera House or


Sydney Opera House is
undoubtedly the quintessential
symbol of Australia. It is located
in the city of Sydney. The
Sydney Opera House is also one
of the most famous buildings of
the 20th century. It was designed
by the Danish architect Jørn
Utzon in 1957 and inaugurated
in 1973. The building is singular
in all its angles, the roof is 67
Sydney (Australia) – The Sydney Opera meters high, has 27,000 tons of
House Swedish tiles, and more than
1,000,000 pieces. 4.5 million
visits per year.

Edinburgh Castle is a military


fortification of the Middle Ages
and is located in the center of
the city of Edinburgh. It was the
residence of the Prince of
Scotland David I who, after
being imprisoned in England,
returned to Scotland and
ordered the reconstruction of the
walls of Edinburgh Castle that
had been damaged in the
Scottish independence wars.
Edinburgh Castle is built on the
core of an extinct volcano
Edinburgh (Scotland) – Edinburgh Castle
The Burj Khalifa (Califa Tower) is
the tallest building in the world
with a height of 828 meters.
More than 12,000 people from
30 countries participated in the
construction of the building. It
was previously known as Burj
Dubai (Dubai Tower).
The construction of the Burj
Khalifa began on September 21,
2004 and ended on January 4,
2010, more than a year later
Dubai (United Arab Emirates) – The Burj than expected. The skyscraper
Khalifa stands out for having a large
number of residential plants,
something unusual so far.
