We are highly grateful to Punjab Engineering College and our Respected Head of Department Prof.
Tilak Thakur for providing us an opportunity to work on a real time project and helping us applying
our learnt skills practically into a project integrating our knowledge about Electrical, Electronics and
It will be a great learning experience as we will be introduced to real time simulations of an idea and
We would like to express my sincerest gratitude towards Prof Sandeep Kaur, for helping us with our
ideas and being a guide and leading us to a conclusion to work on this project of Smart Parking Systems
OBJECTIVES OF STUDY
• We aim to study the integration of technology to daily life to develop intelligent systems to
• To study the optimization of time, energy and space by creating an artificial intelligence system
• To study an integration of computer coding, electrical and electronics and create practically
NEED OF STUDY
• Majority of the times a person must move around the entire place only to find out that there
was no parking slot available to park his car. Or sometimes, he misses a parking space
• To avoid this wastage of time and to utilise the entire space available in a parking area, we
need to have numbered slots for parking which can be allotted to every vehicle which enters the
• Allotting a single place to every person makes the entire process convenient enough and he
even knows where he parked his car when he returns as he can check the parking slot number
and the route to that number too via the app, like booking a movie on an online app where we
• Having a slot to ourselves will give a sense of security to the person who parks it. And if the
parking gets full, no vehicle will further be allowed to enter the space. This will save a lot of
• Installing sensors on all available parking slots will indicate whether the parking slot is free or
occupied
• The sensor through an Arduino or Wi-fi Module will be connected to a mobile application
• The mobile application will indicate to the new car, which all parking spaces are available
• This project helps making a beginning in the broader project of Smart Cities, Smart Parking
• We will be making a mobile application on the suitable platform and linking it to the main
• We learn to work with both hardware and software applications by doing this project.
HYPOTHESIS
According to our hypothesis, due to increased number of cars in the country, parking is a major
1. Open Parking Places: Local Markets of Individual Sectors that create chaos and hinder the
2. Closed Parking Space: Huge parking lots in offices and malls in which it becomes difficult for
a person to find a parking and hence ends up wasting a lot of time in the process
Our project has its major application in both the above-mentioned cases,
In case 1, smart parking helping in notifying the driver of no availability hence avoiding the chaos and
In Case 2, Malls and Office building can install such a system to optimize time, energy and space,
ensuring that everyone parks within the given parking lines and not anywhere else.
METHODOLOGY
• Making a working model with some vacant parking slots and a car looking for parking slot.
• Installing sensors and actuators for detecting car locations and parking slots location.
• Making an app which links with these actuators and sensors through a Bluetooth/Wi-fi Module
