Activity : 7.3
Aim : To show that heat and temperature are
not the same.

Diagram: (figure 7.3)

50g
25g

Procedure:
1. The apparatus is set up as shown in Figure
7.3
2. The 25 g copper sphere and 50 g copper
sphere are put into boiling water for 20 minutes.
3. The 25 g copper sphere and 50 g copper
sphere are transferred at the same time into
beaker P and beaker Q. Beaker P and beaker Q
are contained the same amount of water at the
same temperature.
4. The rise in temperature in each beaker is
observed.
5. A report is written in my science report book.

Result:

Temperature (OC) Beaker P (25 g) Beaker Q (50 g)

Initial 29 29
temperature
Final temperature 30 31
Increased 1 2
Temperature

Observation:
 The temperature in beaker P is __30______OC.
 The temperature in Q is __31____ OC
 The temperature in beaker _______ raises
more than the temperature in beaker _____.

Conclusion:
 The copper sphere with ___ _____ mass
contains more heat than the copper sphere with
___ ______ mass.
 At a given temperature, the amount of heat
contained in a substance depends on the __
_____ of the substances.
 Heat is not the same as ___ ___________.

Discussion:
1. What are heat and temperature?
Heat: Heat is a form of energy which raises the
_________ of an object.

Temperature: Temperature is the _________ of

an object.
2. Why were the two weights heated in boiling
water?

So that they would have the same ___________

3. Did the two weights have the same hotness?

4. Did the two weights have the same heat

content?

5. a) Which weight had a higher heat content?

b) Give a reason for your answer.

Because it has bigger mass.

6. State the relationship between heat and

temperature in an object.
The higher the heat content of an object, the
higher the temperature.
