ABSTRACT

“A Quasi Experimental Study To Assess The Effectiveness Of Structured Teaching


Programme On Knowledge Regarding Revised National Immunization Schedule
Among Mothers Of Under Five Children In Selected Community
Area,Hyderabad,telangana” is a bonafide research work done by Mr,SK Yasar,
Mr.M Srinu, Mr.K Bharath Reddy, Mrs.T Malathi in partial fulfilment of the
requirement for the degree of B.Sc Nursing at Aware college of nursing. Affiliated to the
Dr.NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada, AP.

Objectives of the study

1. To assess the level of knowledge on revised national immunization schedule


before and after structured teaching programme among the mothers of under five
children in selected urban community area
2. To determine the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on revised
national immunization schedule among the mothers of under five children in
selected urban community area
3. To find out the association between post-test knowledge score regarding revised
national immunization schedule among the mothers of under five children with
their demographic variables

Major findings of the study

the mothers of under five children 43% are between 26-30 years, 29% are
between 21-25 years of age, 22% are between 31-35 or above age and 6.6% of
mothers are below 20 years
Out of 30 samples 47% are Hindus and 33% are Christians, 20% are Muslims
Primary educated mothers are 26%, 37% are studied SSC, 31% are studied
intermediate, 6% of mothers are studied degree or above
60% of mothers are having nuclear family, 29% of mothers are having joint
family, 5% mothers having extended family, 6% of mothers are single.
Out of 30 samples 75% of mothers are house wife’s, 9% of mothers are labour,
6% of mothers are business and 10% of mothers are employee.
Out of 30 samples 24% of mothers having ONE child, 46% of mothers rae having
TWO children, 18% of mothers are having THREE children and 12% of mothers
are having ABOVE THREE children
Discussion and conclusion

The knowledge score of mothers of under five children were assessed by


structured questionnaire. The study reveals that the knowledge level of the mothers of
under five children increased after structured teaching programme. it is observed that the
pre-test score was 83.3% of the mothers of under five children having below average
knowledge, where in the post-test 0% of mothers are obtained below average score. The
pre-test mean was 17.53 and standard deviation is 1.61, post-test mean was 25.86 and
standard deviation is 8.44. there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post
test score of clients at the level of significance.

The relationship is tested between the mothers of under five children


knowledge with selected variables such as age, religion, education, occupation, type of
family, number of children. Result shows that mothers of under five children of age
below 20 years has 6.6% of above average knowledge, the mothers who are aged
between 21-25 years are 16.6%of average knowledge and 13.3% of mothers have above
average knowledge, 10% of mothers have average knowledge and 20% of mothers have
above average knowledge with in the age group of 26-30 years,3.3% are average
knowledge and 20% of mothers have above average knowledge in the age group of above
30 years.

Among 30 samples Hindu mothers are having 13.3% of average knowledge and
33.3% of mothers have above average knowledge,10% of Christian mothers have average
knowledge and 23.3% of Christian mothers have above average knowledge, 3.3%of
Muslim mothers will have average knowledge,13.3% of Muslim mothers have above
average knowledge.
Result shows that 6.6% mothers have average knowledge who are
studied primary education,20% mothers have above average knowledge who are studied
primary education, 10% of mothers have average knowledge who are studied SSC,26%
mothers have above average knowledge who are studied SSC,13.3% of mothers have
average knowledge who are studied intermediate,16.6% of mothers have above average
knowledge who are studied intermediate,6.6% of mothers have above average knowledge
who are studied degree are above.

Among 30 samples in the nuclear family 16.6% of mothers having


average knowledge and 43.3% of mothers having below average knowledge, the mothers
in joint family 6.6% of mothers have average knowledge and 20% of mothers have above
average knowledge, in the extended family 3.3% of mothers are average knowledge and
3.3% of mothers have above average knowledge, in the single family 3.3% of mothers
have average knowledge and 5% of mothers have above average knowledge.

In regarding their occupation mothers who are house wife’s 20% of


mothers have average knowledge and 54% of mothers have above average knowledge
and the mothers who are labour 3.3% of mothers have average knowledge and 6.6% of
mothers have above average knowledge, the mothers who are doing business 3.3% of
mothers are average knowledge and 3.3% of mothers have above average knowledge, the
mothers who are employee 3.3% of mothers are having average knowledge and 6.6% of
mothers having above average knowledge.

The results shows that mothers who are having ONE child 10% of
mothers are having average knowledge and 13.3% of mothers having above average
knowledge, the mothers who are having TWO children 6.6% of mothers have average
knowledge and 40% of mothers have above average knowledge, the mothers who are
having THREE children 3.3% of mothers are having average knowledge and 15.3% of
mothers are having above average knowledge, the mothers who are having more than
Three children 10% of mothers have average knowledge and 3.3% of mothers are having
above average knowledge.
